Hi! I went to school in Pecos from first grade untill the seventh. My name
was Lori Durham. I, too, have fond memories of several teachers. Mr. Alvarez
in the sixth grade was my favorite { Pecos Elem.} If any of you know anything
about Michelle Ross, Pam Weinacht, David Armstrong, Michelle Patterson, Jamie
Gentry, Cindy Calloway, I would love to hear from them or know their
addresses or phone numbers. Some of these people I knew from elem. school and
some from Jr. High.
Some of you might remember my mom Sue or my brother Ken and sister
Karen. I live in Brownwood, Texas -----three kids and fixing to be a grandmom!

Happy Birthday Marianne, from Roy Dee and I. I was so glad to read that you
were well. We have really fun memories growing up with you as a friend. My
mother, Cora Moody, is 82 and in great health and still living an
independent life. She was taking the children in her school bus, from the
air base to the schools, while you were teaching them. You both have left
wonderful memories in the lives of many children. I have the pleasure of
teaching third grade at Pecos Elementary where your children and Roy and I
attended school. It is still a beautiful old building and still serving
children. Thank you for allowing me to walk down memory lane and to thank
you for your service to children. Have a great birthday.

Requesting help from anyone who remembers my mother, Marianne Hart. She
taught 1st grade at Pecos Elementary for over 20 years and probably taught
many of you or your parents. She and my father, Wesley Hart (who died in
1986) lived in the same house on the corner of Oleander and 6th Street for
50+ years until she moved to Harker Heights 6 years ago. Mother will be
celebrating her 85th Birthday on Nov. 23, and I know she would be thrilled
to hear from any of you who remember her. Don't worry that she might not
remember you... she is in excellent health and probably remembers more about
you than you care to know! She reads some of the messages on this gab site
and knows most of you or your families. If you need help remembering
something or someone, just ask her. Please make her Birthday special by
dropping her a card. Her address is:

Hello! If any one out there remembers my Mom, Kathryn Hagar, and the NikNak grocery on Eddy Street,. I'd love for you to drop
her a note. She is 80 now and retired from Christian Village about a month ago. She took a fall and we discovered she has some
serious health problems. Mom worked midnight to 8 am. 4 days a week for l7 years. She has always been a night person and
loved to keep busy. Growing up I thought everyone cleaned house at night and hummed doing it. Mom has been the back bone of
our family and I would appreciate anyone remembering funny stories and things that happed with her while she was at the store
.My sisters Suzy and Jimmy Ann would be pleased knowing she is remembered. Both of them are in Dallas with the schools in
Grapevine and Carrolton. I live in San Angelo and Mom has been here since the 80. Here is her address: Kathryn Hagar 4225

I just found your site. It is fun to see the names of those of you from so long ago. I will put in my vote for some teachers. I
think the ones who influenced me the most in high school was Mrs. Kelly and Mr. Carrico. Being a "band baby" all 4 years
made Mr. Carrico very special to me. Both of these teachers drew things out of me that I would not have attempted if it had
not been for them. They challenged me to dig deep and produce more.
In my academic love, which was science, I had great relationships with Mrs. McNeil, Laura Boswell and Jerry Workman.
Mrs. Shepard worked me out in English until I hated my 6 inch clear ruler with a passion, but between her and Mrs. Kelly in
Latin, I placed out of Freshman English in college. Pecos teachers were very good.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of, (pardon the maiden names here) Sally (Meek), MaryElla (Meek), Wade McLean,
Ben or Fran Meek. If you know their email or snail mail addresses, please forward them to me.
Thanks

From:
YaklinRudy@aol.com
After reading the letters on favorite teachers, I decided that I too had many
favorite teachers and would like to locate one in particular. Mrs. Teresa
Armstead. I do not know whatever happened to her but she was a wonderful
teacher. She was one of the teachers that inspired me to stand up for what
is right for a child. She coached me in UIL and after being spoken to by who
knows who was told to stop. It seems that there was a bit of jealousy on one
of the other sponsors part.
The story goes on and on, but she helped mold me into a strong UIL competitor
and because of her effort I now coach UIL. She wanted what was best for a
student and she went the extra mile to see that ALL STUDENTS were given an
equal opportunity to compete.
Should anyone know her whereabouts, I would appreciate an address. This is a
great site and I enjoy reading it. The stories are great and the memories
seem to flow once you begin reading. Thanks for all of you effort.
Always a PHS graduate of '79,

Favorite Teachers, what about Mrs. Shepherd, now there's a lady who would kick your butt, in a minute. Although I never had her class I can
remember just walking by her class could get you in trouble. But Mrs. Turk, bless her heart, wanted all her students to write properly, and
nothing else. I spent my summer in 1973 in school with Mrs. Turk, writing a research a paper in "The English Language". Yeah I know, dum,
dum, why that subject? I barely passed that class, or maybe Mrs. Turk just passed me for the sake of not seeing me next semester. But I
doubt it, Mrs Turk never passed anyone. I never told Mrs. Turk how much I needed to pass that class or the fact that my parents would be
very upset at the thought of spending that money for nada. Thanks Mrs. Turk! And there are many more, Mrs. Rankin, Mr. Portillo, Mr.
Talamantez, not only are they or were great teachers but also great mentors. Now if we could only get a raise for all you teachers.

THANKS for a wonderful stroll down memory lane. Just found the website and
my "housework-yuk" will just have to keep for awhile. I graduated in 1954
(long time ago) and definitely have memories of several "favorite" teachers
even in my advanced years. Mr. Carrico who taught us about discipline and
hard work and made us happy (?) to do it, Mrs. Turk with her beautiful hair
and wonderful smile and teaching us Spanish, and Mrs. Shephard whose smile
was as bright as her anger was not bright, and who, in my time, would NOT
teach junior English and we had to endure that year without her.
Just as a matter of information, the homemaking teacher in 1950-51 was Jayne
Elzay who married G. P. Owens, 1950-51 algebra teacher. She passed away some
years ago, but Mr. Owens is still living in the little town of Trinidad, TX,
just a few miles from our little town of Gun Barrel City, located on Cedar
Creek Res.

thought lots of them. Both were a lot of fun in class but could be tough when
they had to.

I am so happy to see Mr. Carrico, Mrs. Turk and Mrs. Stickles and all of the

teacher, Mrs. Baldwin? Or, how about Mr. Booher (all of you football guys

Daniel in Geometry? And, please do not forget Sue Couch and the wonderful
Spanish classes we enjoyed. ( I am sure I have neglected to mention some who
were also great--please forgive me.) We have had some memorable teachers
in Pecos and we have graduated with an education so diverse that we can
converse about anything with anyone, anywhere, at any time and at least know
a little (if not a lot) about what we are talking about! Some of our i.q.
of course was a benefit of have truly remarkably intelligent parents (they
always seemed to know where we were, what we were doing, and with whom,
right?--we will discuss their psychic powers in another message). I hope
our children (who were not raised in Pecos) will be able to look back on
their school years and say the same.
Again, thank you so much for providing and updating this e-mail site!

Another great teacher that influenced many of us at PHS is Ms Cecil
Stickles who taught PE & was the cheerleading sponsor. Ms Stickles was
another teacher who did not have favorites & was firm but fair to all
students. She supported us with all of our teenage problems, was a wonderful

she still lives in Pecos.

Let me throw in my two cents about favorite teachers at PHS. Some of you may remember some of them, like:
L. R. Hudson, teacher and principal of PHS, who we used to think was mean, and finally learned different.
Fred Sitton, one of the best - taught English, coached tennis, was always a class sponsor, and to those who listened, taught more
about life than most.
Howard Lumbley, football coach and teacher - the most fair minded man around at the time. He did not play politics or favorites.
Looked mean, but had the heart of a lamb.
There were others in the 40's and 50's, but these stand out for me.

I would like to add to that list - - Miss Cole. I don't know how many

my 94 year old Mother, and she taught me. I still remember most of the
mathmatical formulas she pounded into us back in the 5th, or 6th grade. I
also remember how she caught my class abusing a substitute teacher and
spanked about forty of us. So, here's to Miss Cole - - She was quite a

As I scan the hits on info concerning Mrs. Turk's still being MRS. TURK, I have to wonder how many others who passed through her
classes have the same respect for her that I have and how many would like to express the same in some tangible way while we still have her to
thank for all she did for us way back then. Is there not some way to establish a substantial scholarship in her name that could be used to
assist a future Mrs. Turk from PHS in getting the education they need? Perhaps someone would like to spearhead a massive reunion of her
former students to be held in San Angelo some three day weekend. Can you just imagine seeing that blue hair once more presiding over a
body of people? I can almost hear the famous playtex pop just thinking of this. All jesting aside, are you interested? Buzz us at

Its time for a few of us to journey back to Pecos for our annual dove hunt
and catch the Homecoming game next Friday night, Oct.13th.
Normally we try to get back on Labor Day but we put our hunting off so we
could catch Homecoming. James Caswell and I will be in from Dallas.
Hopefully Bryan Grammer from Vancouver Washington will be able to trip trade
and join us (If he can't, he'll think of us on a trip to Athens{ and that
ain't Texas} ).
Billy O'Neil is coming in from Arlington,Washinton. Darvin Hooker will make
the long drive from Midland. Roy Prewit rounds out the '59 Eagles who are
looking forward to seeing long time friends and family. (NOTICE - I said long
time. Not OLD)
Just for the record - The '59 Eagles had a very successful season under
Garland Matthews. Won Homecoming and went on to beat Monahans. Won some
others, too, but that was the criteria of a winning season at the time -
Homecoming and Monahans wins.
We hope to see a bunch of you at the game so come on out.
Go Eagles

My mom was visiting me from Odessa, Tx and a friend from
Pecos gave us this web site and on Oct.1 I sent this message
to the Pecos gab to see if any classmates from 1952 where
out there. I did however forget one small thing my e-mail address!
If there is anyone out there that graduated from PHS in 1952 and
knew Neta Jones please e-mail me at AKbarton@gci.net. Thank
you! Her daughter, Dolores

Greetings from joedog@flash.net (AKA Lynn Webb-class of 60). Scrolling through the gab site, I noticed the allusion to how Mrs. Turk
must have taught good English and thought I would share the news that she is still alive and doing well. My son Robert Webb, who is pastor of
Harris Avenue Baptist Church in San Angelo, looked her up shortly after the 40th. reunion this summer. When he told her I would be coming
to Angelo with some pictures of the gang she said she would get out her old annuals and be ready to see how we had all changed. Have
been unable to go see her yet, but will be there during October. Should anyone want to contact her, her address is : 1909 Dena Drive, San
Angelo, Tx. 76904 ( telephone # 915-944-3747). Hey "Peg Leg" , the site is nifty, but I sure do have a rough time remembering some of these
folks (old age has its way, doesn't it)? I had to retire from honest labor in 97and retired to the easy life in Denton, all the while recalling the
carefree days of "ON THE BEAT" while on staff there. Must pull the plug on this and attend to some "HONEY DOS" that come with the easy
life. Hey gang, give us a buzz with any news worth sharing.
