Rec department holds volleyball, football sign-up
Registration is underway at the Reeves County Community Sports and Recreation Department for the youth volleyball, pee-wee football and flag football programs for this fall.
The Pee-Wee football program is for boys and girls entering grades 3-6 this year, while the flag football program is open to children ages 5 through 7. Both leagues have a sign-up deadline of August 27. The youth volleyball program is for students in second through sixth grade and has a deadline to register of August 28.
Entry fee for Pee-Wee football is $20 per player, while sign-ups for the flag football and volleyball leagues is $10 per child. Registration forms must have both parents’ signatures along with a copy of the child’s birth certificate when returned to the recreation department office.
Sign-up forms are available at the recreation department office in the old Pecos High School gym during regular hours, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, from 4 too 6:30 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. For further information, call 447-9776.
Hensleys get First Flight win in Rotary Club’s tournament
The team of Mike and Jeff Hensley scored an eight-stroke victory in the First Flight of the Pecos Rotary Club’s Adult-Youth golf Tournament, held this weekend at the Reeves County Golf Course.
A total of 41 teams in five flights were entered in the 12th annual tournament, which the Hensleys won with a 63-59-122 score. Drake and David Bradley placed second with a 64-66-130 total, while Geno and Joshua Aguilar were third, with 67-62-129 scores.
In the First Flight, Starkey Warren and Sarah McKinney placed first, with a 68-63-136 score. Tim and Jared Windham were five strokes behind, with 68s both days for a 136 score, while Teresa Winkles and Pete Vasquez shot 69 scores both Saturday and Sunday to place third, with a 138 total.
In the Third Flight, Primo Gonzalez and Luke Abbott took first place with a 72-69-141, two strokes in front of Ruben Baca and Luis Villescas, who shot a 74-69-143. Layne and Lauren Nutt took third with a 73-71-144 total, after winning a tie-breaker over Victor and Joseph Tarin.
In the Fourth Flight, Kim Anderson and Coe Duke won with a 76-71-147 score. Bill Cooksey and Trey Graham were second with a 78-72-150 score, and David and Dominique Vejil took third, with a 77-75-152 total. The winners in the Fifth Flight were Peter and Matthew Mora, who shot an 80-81-161. Carlos and Gabi Nichols were second, with 82-83-165 scores, while Oscar and Tim Fuentes were third, with 84-86-170 scores.
