Pecos 9-10 LLers win opening games
The Pecos Little League 9-10 year old All-Star team used a pair of two-hitters this past weekend to advance to the semifinals of the District 4 Tournament.
Pecos will take on San Angelo Western Thursday at 8 p.m. at the North Concho Little League Field in Carlsbad, north of San Angelo. The winner will advance to the tournament title game at 10 a.m. on Saturday, while the loser will play again on Friday in the double-elimination tournament.
Coach Vaughn Garnto said Jesus Salgado tossed a two -hitter on Friday night, in an 8-2 win over San Angelo Northern, while Brandon Garnto shut out North Concho on Saturday with his two-hitter, as Pecos won by a 4-0 score. Salgado had 10 strikeouts in his complete-game victory, while Brandon Garnto fanned 15 North Concho batters in his shutout win.
Antonio Rodriguez and Analee Rodriguez had the big hits during the two games, Vaughn Garnto said. “Most everybody else had scattered hits here and there,” he added.
Antonio Rodriguez had three doubles during the two games, while Analee Rodriguez had a three-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning of Saturday’s game against North Concho. Antonio Rodriguez drove in the other run with one of his doubles.
Garnto said Pecos never trailed in the opening game victory, scoring once in the first inning and then adding runs throughout the game, which was played amid showers in the San Angelo area.
