Bacas take first in Beau Jack
tourney
Brothers Michael and Ruben Baca captured first
place by
three strokes on Sunday in the
Championship Flight of the annual Beau Jack Memorial Day Tournament,
held at
the Reeves County Golf Course.
The two-day tournament attracted 42 teams in four
flights,
with the Top 10 pre-flighted teams entered in the Championship Flight.
The
Bacas used an opening round 64 to open up a four shot lead on Paul
Hinojos and
Jason Abila, and they were able to win with a round of 68 on Sunday for
a 132
total. Hinojos and Abila shot a 67 and finished with a 135, while the
team of
Sal Nichols and Brett Boles placed third.
Boles and Nichols, who played on the Pecos Eagles’
golf team
this past season and played as an amateur in the weekend tournament,
shot a
69-71 for a 140 total over 36-holes of the windy, best-ball
tournament.
In the First Flight, Mike Harrison and Jimmy
Lassiter shot a
71-70-141 to take first place, while a
three-hole playoff was needed to decide the second through fourth place
spots.
David Pierce and Kevin Ferrer shot a 70-75-145 and ended up winning
second,
while Gilbert Herrera and Jesse Anchondo, who had a 72-73-145 took
third. The
fourth place team of Terry Ott and Craig Davis also had rounds of 72
and 73 for
the tournament.
In the morning flights, David and Donnie Bradley
shot a 70
on Saturday, which helped them take first in the Second Flight with a

overall score, four strokes better than the second and third place
teams. Jimmy
Dutchover and Frank Jimenez won a
scorecard playoff over Michael Serrano and Chris Rivera. Dutchover and
Jimenez
shot rounds of 76 both days, while Serrano and Rivera shot a 72 on
Saturday and
an 80 on Sunday.
The Third Flgiht’s top finishers, Jack Casimir and
Corky Kizzar,
actually had a better final score than the Second Flight winners. They
shot a
72-75-147 for a one-stroke victory over Charlie Claburn and Jerry
McDonald, who
finished with a 73-75-148 total. Placing third were Bill Cooksey and
Gary Dyer
with a 77-80-157 total.
