Softball teams to end seasons with tourneys
Pecos' summer youth softball teams will be wrapping up their 2003 seasons
this week, competing in tournament play at Midland this coming weekend.
The 9-10, 12 and under and 14 and under teams all are entered in the
tournament, which will be held on Friday through Sunday. The oldest group
includes some members of the Pecos Eagles' varsity softball team this past
season, along with junior high players, while the 12 and under team is made
up of both junior high and elementary school girls, and both already have
competed in out-of-town games this season.
"I think they look good when we played over in the Alpine Tournament
a couple of weeks ago and took second place," said Debbie Garcia, coach
for the 12 and under squad. She said area teams from Fort Stockton and Monahans
were among those entered in the Alpine Tournament.
The 12 and under group had enough players for two local teams, who played
against each other this season, the final time on Thursday. Meanwhile, the
14 and under squad will play their final regular season game on Tuesday,
when they host Alpine at Martinez Field in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
