Dodgers beat Cubs 11-9 to take 11-12 Little League title

By KRISTEN CARREON
Staff Writer

Little league 11- and 12-year-old kids played their championship game last night. Playing were the Dodgers and the Cubs. The teams were one game apart, but that ended last night with the Dodgers beating the Cubs 11-9.

The evening started off with the Dodgers taking chances. Linvel Mosby, after trying to steal home, found himself stuck between home and third. A run-away ball left Mosby with an open opportunity to take home, and he did. Lucas Chavez, under the same conditions between first and second, did not have the same luck and was called out at first. RBIs by Cubs batters Tony Reyes Jr. and Sal Baez, brought the Cubs to a 3-2 lead at the end of the first inning.

Confusion by the Cubs outfielders and good hits by the Dodgers allowed the Dodgers to bring in 2 more runs at the start of the second inning. A collision between Dodgers first baseman, Lucas Chavez, and second baseman, Matthew Rodriguez, in the bottom of the second inning allowed the Cubs to bring in 2 runners.

The Cubs were able to hold the Dodgers during the third inning. They brought in 2 more runs at the bottom of the inning, bringing the score to a 6-6 tie.

A two-run single by Timo Reyes brought the Dodgers back to a 9-6 lead. Cubs pitcher Baez was able to hold back the Dodgers, and only one more run made it through before the final out. Cubs were not able to bring any runs in during the fourth.

The fifth inning brought the score to 10-9, with the Dodgers leading. A great hit by Cubs batter Isabel Baeza brought in two runs for the team and the lead.

But it was not the Cub's night.

The last run of the night came came off of a one run single by Dodgers pitcher, Reyes. Reyes went on to end the final inning by striking out two of the last three Cubs batters, with the third out by 2nd baseman Matthew Rodriguez, who caught a pop up by a Cubs batter.

With a final score of 11-9, the Dodgers took their victory lap around the field with their first place trophy. Following the game, "A" team All-Star members and coaches were announced.
