Subject: The Pecos Kid
Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 12:28:20 -0500
From: smarti12@csc.com

My name is Scott Martin and I was on the internet searching for hits using the name Pecos Kid.

My grandfather, Pecos Albert Martin would be about 90 years old if he was alive today. He used to tell me stories that his father was known as the Pecos Kid. I am interested in possible roots to a great grandfather that probably lived in the Pecos River area some time ago. I see by your website that there is a modern day Pecos Kid and I am wondering if there was an older Pecos Kid that I could be related to.

Do you have any record of a Pecos Kid that would have been in the Pecos River area some 90 years ago? Do you have any information on places or people I could contact on information about a Pecos Kid?

If you could give me some hints on where I could research information on the Pecos Kid, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

From: "Mike Almuina" MALMUINA@prodigy.net Please post on the Gab. Thank you. *** *** Hello to all of the nice and wonderful people of Pecos and all of the exes too!!

My name is Maurilio Almuina. I grew up in Pecos and I have to say I'm proud to be from this small and warm community. All of the fine folks that I grew up around are surely missed. I hope my 2 year old son has a childhood full of fond memories as well. One of my fondest memories was when we (and the Band Boosters) had our fund raising function at the radio station (KIUN). We would describe an item over the radio and people would actually call-in their bids sight unseen. We always met our budget goals! Prom 87 or 88, a bunch of us took a group picture together. The late Hal Pratt was in this picture. Does anyone have a copy? I'm also looking for video copies of 84 - 88 PHS Marching Band or 81-82 Crockett Jr. High Marching Band. I can be reached at malmuina@prodigy.net or fasttrackappraisals@prodigy.net. Lets have a reunion before we become 'old foggies'. May God Bless All, Maurilio Mike Almuina

Hi my name is Gloria Cavazos. I used to live and work in Pecos, Texas many years ago. The year to be exact was 1980. I made some good friends at that time and have lost contact with them. One very good friend of myself and my sisters, and cousin was a gentleman by the name of Abraham Tarin. We have tried countless of times to find Mr. Tarin, but have had no luck. If anyone sees this email and is able to advise Mr. Tarin, your help would be greatly appreciated. Mr. Tarin would be 39 years of age at this time. Muchas Gracias

I'll try this again, since my only other attempt failed to be posted. Anyway this is Mark Carreira class of 1988. It truly is hard to believe that it has been so long. I haven't even passed through in almost a decade, I think it was 1993. A lot has changed since then. I'm a high school history teacher, thanks Coach Howard wherever you are, in a suburban school district outside of Dayton, OH. I'm probably one of the last of my classmates to not be married, but its not bad at all. Well, if anyone sees Kyle Parker, Lance Bowers, Jon Ramirez, or Kody Saunders, tell them to look this up. Take care everyone hopefully I'll see this soon, and get some responses Mark Carreira

From: Ray Thompson raymackt@attbi.com

I haven't posted in some time, but always enjoy reading Pecos Gab. PLEASE NOTE MY E-MAIL ADDRESS HAS CHANGED! I grew up (with my sister Barbara Jane) on our cantaloupe farm and graduated from PHS in 1947. My parents were Neil and Zorene Thompson, and my grandparents were Madison and Julia Todd, who are Pecos pioneers: http://www.raymack.com/MY-HomePage/MrCantaloupe/mrcantaloupe2.html I now live in Richardson, Texas (Dallas). I am especially interested in finding PHS grads for the years 1940-1950. I keep a database of grads in these years and share it with everyone who lists themselves. To be added to the database and receive the complete list, please send following to me: - Your name, spouse name and maiden names - Year you and spouse graduated (if both PHS grads) - Address/phone/email/webpage Please take a look at my webpage sometime (below)! From: hellums@yahoo.com

Was delighted to find the site and see old names and places. Thanks for making it available. My name is Butch Jones (aka Duane Hellums), and I went to elementary, Junior High and High School in Pecos and some in Barstow. Would have been class of '81, but I graduated overseas instead. Never did get my football letter for our near flawless football season in '74-75 was it (only lost one)... I've been in the Air Force for 20 years now, retiring in 3 more years. My parents, Ken and Ann Jones, ran the rifle/archery range for awhile. I had some older siblings, Randy, Pam, and Tonya Wright that went to school there too. We lived out by I-10 on Cactus street, by the pool someone mentioned (and the gophers, are they still there?) Mom lives in Rising Star now, the others in Brownwood. I always wondered what happened to friends Neil James and Greg/Tom Oliver. If Dacia Ball's around, heartfelt apologies for standing her up--Greg forced me to make the date (oh to be so shy again!). Is Keema Box still out there somewhere--she was my first date ever! Hope everyone's doing great! Butch

Thanks to Kin Winkles our class really got together for our 20th reunion. It was sure great hearing from everyone two years ago. Since that time I haven't heard much our class or from the folks in Pecos. Would love to hear from anyone from our class or friends of the Naylor family. Melodee Naylor Blalock

I am just writing one more time to let everyone know that Glenda and I are on line. My daughter, Katy, one of two, the other being Kayla, says I should put the year I graduated. It was 79 and Glenda "Anderson" McLain just a little before that. I have yet to see my messages show up , maybe I am doing something wrong. It great to see that Mrs. Sheppard is still around.

From: Brancheria@aol.com

Mrs. Emma Shepherd, an English teacher at Pecos High School for many years, will have her 90th Birthday on February 4th. The class of 1954 has tried to help her celebrate by sending cards, letters, etc. Perhpas those who are close or in Pecos can give her a call or even still send a card. She was very popular with our class and I hope other PHS graduates will join us in say, "Happy 90th Birthday,"
