. I have worked for QVC for 4 years now. The first year in
Pennsylvania and the last 3 in TX. I love living in San Antonio...GO SPURS.
There is so much to do here Sea World is about a mile away. Six flags about
6 miles the weather here is a little humid but livable.
I have a 10 year old daughter named Alexandra she is the light of my life a
straight A student who is in the 5th grade (or as she puts it ... the top of
the food chain) wait till next year middle school she will wake up.
Alexandra is very much into Basketball and Volleyball for 10 years old she is
5 "3" tall the size of someone in atleast 8th grade....look for her someday
in the WNBA (hehe). She is my perfect little angel with long curly blonde
hair and big blues eyes, very well behaved, and a very loving human being she
makes me proud.
I haven't been back to Pecos in many years. I did not make my high school
reunion either because I was in Pennsylvania at the time. I moved to
Pennsylvania to take care of my mother who was terminally ill she passed away
on January 31, 1996, after a long illness. For those of you who do not
remember my mother her name was Jean Holmes Her very close friends were
Barbara Creager of Mentone and many others in the Pecos area.
My life is now in San Antonio Texas but my heart will always be in Pecos. I
would LOVE to hear from my old friends..If you are all out there. I miss you
all and think of you often ( you know who you are too :0 )

"Michael Beckman" reg904@worldnet.att.net
I'm Mike Beckham one of the famous or not so famous, "Orla Flashes" class of
'68. My sister, Patti told me about the site and truly, it brought back a
lot of memories about Pecos and the "good times". I enjoyed seeing comment
about Al's. I'm probably the only one in high school at that time that got
a parking ticket from "Pops" for double parking at Al's. Boy talk about
feeling dumb.
I have passed through Pecos over the years, and find it hard to believe the
change. I now live in McKinney, TX, have been married for 28 years. Two
children, Cameron, 23 just graduated from Schreiner College, Kerrville, in
May and Mary, 20 currently going to community college here.
I married a girl from Dallas, met her at Sul Ross the first two weeks of
school and have been sweethearts ever since. Girls at Sul Ross were very
hard to come by in 68. I think I did well, as all the upper classmen were
hot on the trail of Lawrence Hall, the freshman girls dorm. I seemed they
stood in line to get dates.
I would really like to hear from any of the class of 68. Anyone hear or
know where John Sutton is? ( the other Orla Flash). I heard Charles Wiley
was in Hobbs.
Jimmy, Charles' brother, I heard died several years ago. Don't know where
Mike Shupp is. Peggy Sorrels died of lukemia. Vicki Robinson Bowlin we
have tried to stay in contact with, but many of the people we rode the bus
to and from Orla are scattered.
The site is great, Peggy you did well to have this thought. So many people
came through Pecos in the 60's and 70's. A lot of good friends were made.
It's great to have a way to get back together.

Just read through and recognized a lot of names but no one from MY class. I'm Teena (Strong)
Simmons, class of 1965. Heard about 'Pecos chat' from my "little" brother Terry Strong.
I've been in Houston for years now. I met and married my husband here nearly 21 years ago, have only
one child, a terrific daughter, 19 years old and a sophomore at Sam Houston State University in
Huntsville. But have two wonderful step sons and one of them has three children.
My brother Terry (a year behind me at PHS) and his family live in a suburb of Phoenix and, of course,
he's FLYING. He married a Yankee but she's great and they have two terrific children, Sarah 12 and
Matthew 8.
Our Mother still lives in Pecos as well as a sister, niece and nephew and their families. So we still visit
as often as we can.
I had an interesting thing happen recently when I changed jobs. While I was being considered for this
job, the very nice woman who is my supervisor now said that she noticed I graduated from High School in
Pecos. It seems SHE attended school in Pecos through her Junior year. She was a senior when I was a
freshman! We knew lots of the same people. Even dated the same guy (I am not naming names)! Her
dad was Doc Foster, the veterinarian in Pecos for years. We also attended the First Christian Church
and Terry knew one of her brothers. Her name is Sherry (Foster) Grimm. Small world, huh? Now I have
a great new job, great boss and new friend.
Well, I look forward to hearing from some of my long lost friends out there now that you can e-mail me at

From:

I just wanted to thank you for establishing this website. Since I wrote
in a few months ago, I have continued to hear from former students.
I
taught first grade at Pecos Elementary and have had such fun hearing
from all my ex-students. Each has a special place in my heart and I
have such fond memories. Bill has heard from several of his ex-students
and athletes as well and we were able to go back down memory lane with
such eagerness!
July found us at a conference in San Antonio and I was able to make
contact with one of my favorite former first graders, Dolores Miramontes
(known as Loly or Maria to some) and it was such a joy. She now is
attending medical school and has a nine year old of her own. It was a
pleasure to meet her again after many (21) years and visit with her
family. I am so proud of her and all her successes. I might add,
however, that I was certainly not the least bit surprised to learn that
she'd done well.
What was surprising was that she was probably about 9
years old when I last saw her and I was considerably younger . We
agreed to meet in the lobby of the hotel where we were staying (not
realizing that there were about 350 people staying there and we weren't
specific as to a particular place). What was so neat was that the
minute she walked in the door, we immediately walked toward one another
without hesitation and agreed that we'd have recognized each other
anywhere! Such fun!
I have also heard from Lori Bafidis, Kim Florez, Jamie Pearrow (all
maiden names of course) to name a few.
Some of you might not know that we lost our only child, our precious
Melissa, in 1988. She had acute leukemia and was diagnosed only the day
before she passed away. It was so tragic and she was only 20. It broke
our hearts and we still have such huge holes there. We are grateful for
the memories.
It means so much to hear from all of you and to be able
to share your successes. Your graciousness in responding to us is
certainly appreciated. It is said that friends multiply your joys and
divide your grief. I have found that to be so true. So....keep the
email coming!

Although I did not graduate from Pecos High, I called Pecos home from

Pecos Gab Addendum!

From:
"George Toone" gtoone@texas.net
Well, I really enjoyed the e-mails I got from several of you. Have heard
from people whom I haven't heard from in years. I know that the previous
posting was very serious and wasn't very fun to read. I just wanted you
to
know that I still maintain my sense of humor and have a great time having
fun with people and pulling jokes and tricks when I get the chance. I do
have the serious side but I like the other side much better. Remember,
don't sweat the small stuff, and it is all small stuff.
One thing I remember about most all of my friends back during that time
which I lived in the Pecos area was that most all of you accepted me as I
wanted to be accepted. It is much different out here in the world. I
continually have to prove myself and have to show people that I am a
person
just like anyone else.
Due to my vision disability, some things might be
harder for me than they might be someone else, but that is just the way it
is. I don't mind that, I just want everyone to take me as I am rather
than
placing me in a corner or not realizing that I like to participate in the
same activities as everyone else. It is not quite as bad here in Austin
because when I go into a restaurant, the wait staff doesn't have a heart
attack like they did in other places. Things have happened such as the
wait staff asking who I am with what I would like to eat or if I want some
more drink or something like that. It is really pretty comical because
they don't think I can talk or hear or communicate in any way. I am aware
that this probably seems strange to you who know me because you have never
treated me like that. It does happen though.
Usually, I make a joke out of it and go on. Most people who I come in
contact with don't ever forget me and if I go back into a place where I
have been, they usually remember. It is really funny.
Just for more information, I still play music and now play guitar and have
a drum machine and a pedal keyboard which plays rhythm and makes me into a
one man band. I don't play bars anymore, but I do play in restaurants and
for private parties and for churches. I have decided I won't make it big
in the music business so I just play for peanuts and have a good time all
the same.
I remember back in 1989, I think it was, we were all in Lubbock for Max
Kerley's wedding and I was standing outside the hotel in which we were
staying and someone handed me a coffee cup to hold while they ran in and
did some things prior to our leaving. While I was holding that cup, a
man
came by and dropped 50 cents into the cup. I decided I had developed
quite
a racket. Maybe should try that down here. After all, lots of musicians
stand out on 6th street and play music hoping people will throw money in
their guitar cases and I guess they are somewhat successful. Not really.
Don't want to make money that way but that was pretty funny.
E-mail me back if you haven't already and if you have, keep them coming.
It is great to hear from you all. The best to you from George in Austin.

I have been reading the postings regularly over the last three months.
Would it be possible to implement a "search" engine to enable users to
search for particular years or individuals? Just an idea.
Thanks,
Editor's Note: The search engine has been on the site all along, at the bottom of the gab pages. I have added it to the top of this page for your convenience.
Just enter the name or string you want to search for. It will give you the URL of the file the string is in.
The search covers everything on the Pecos Country site, so you likely will get files that are not relevant. Look for a link that begins with Pecos Gab before you click. Recent pages may not yet be indexed, so you will still need to click the "more gab" at the bottom of the page to ensure you cover all the bases.

My name is Robert D. Van Vickle. I lived in Pecos from 8/68 - 1/76.
most of those years I was a member of Troop 68. Mr Wayne Grable was
our Scoutmaster. He probably had as much influence on my life as my
own Dad has.
I got a phone call from the Lake Brownwood area yesterday afternoon,
telling me that Mr Grable passed away in his sleep Saturday night.
He was a teacher, and coach at Pecos Jr High for many years.
His Scouting accomplishments are numerous - he was an Eagle Scout, a
Vigil Honor recipient, a Silver Beaver recipient, District Award of
Merit recipient, he led high adventure trips to the Boundary Waters in
Minnesota & to the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico.
I don't know the exact number - but I would suspect that about 20
Scouts recieved the Eagle rank under his guidance, including myself.
I'm certain there are many in Pecos who knew, and respected Mr Grable
and would be interested in knowing of his demise. He had 1 son and 1
daughter, Rodney and Dawn.
I have no info regarding funeral arrangements. I did have the good
fortune of visiting with him at his lakeside home last July on a trip
from Amarillo back to Houston, he told me then that he was 71.

"Whisenhunt, Barbara" Whiseba@TulsaSchools.org
My sister Cindy told me about the Pecos Gab site. I agree with her that
we
owe the Pecos Enterprise a big "Thank You." This will be a wonderful way
for Pecos Ex's to keep in touch. Through this, I have heard from Sunny
Crist who lives in Tulsa.
I have lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma since I married Dwayne Whisenhunt (Sam) in
1965. Although we recently moved to a small Tulsa suburb, I still
consider
myself a Tulsan! After teaching school for four years, we had a baby boy,
followed by a second boy two years later. I stayed home with them while
they were young, did substitute teaching and completed my Masters degree.
One of them now works in Wichita, Kansas and the other is finishing his
last
year of college.
Although I went back to teaching, circumstances led to a 12 month position
in the Budget Department of Tulsa Public Schools. I have been the Budget
Director for several years. It is an interesting, but stressful job that
I
enjoy most of the time.
If any of you are education administrators and
going to International ASBO in Florida next month please let me know.
Sam
retired after 34 years as a teacher and counselor for Tulsa Public Schools
and Tulsa VoTech and is now enjoying his work as a construction manager.
Other family news: Mother moved to a two bedroom apartment in a
retirement
center that is only a couple miles from our new home. Daddy died in 1980
at
the age of 72. Mom will be 89 in November but still has a determination
to
keep going despite her very low vision and other aging problems. Some of
the family will meet in Houston next weekend for the wedding of my nephew
-
my brother Steve's oldest son. Steve and Sally have two sons and Phil
(my
other brother) and Mary live in California and have three daughters.
Sam and I took Mother to Jean Ballew's 80th birthday party in the Dallas
area a few weeks ago. It was great to see her in addition to Ronnie and
Judy. I try to take Mom back to Pecos every few years. Our last visit
was
in June. As others have written, Pecos has indeed changed. But it still
feels like home! I look forward to seeing information from other Pecos
Eagles as news of the web site spreads! Class of '61 - where are you?

Hi from Hong Kong
I'm Marti Lincecum Ling. Class of '64. I live in Hong Kong.....actually
a
resort called Discovery Bay on an island near HK. Have two adult children,
three grandchildren. Lived in San Antonio for about 15 years prior to
coming to China. And believe me, this is China. If I climb the mountain
behind our flat, I can see the mainland.
I am here with my fiance, an
executive with a British banking company called HSBC. He is from North
Carolina but is here on a long contract. I saw a posting from Cary Don,
and
one from Cindy Frakes, so I know a lot of you 60's PHS people are out
there.
Would love to hear from you.....email is martiling@hotmail.com. I went
through Pecos in February when I went to Alpine to visit a friend. Still
love West Texas even though it's been a long time since I lived there.
Marti
