Local residents needed for Census 2000

Local residents are needed to conduct Census 2000. In an effort to recruit workers, the Census Bureau has established many different locations in El Paso County and other nearby communities to qualify applicants. To qualify, applicants must take a test of basic skills. For an appointment or for further information including qualifications, call the El Paso Census Jobs, at 915-781-2595.

The hourly pay ranges from $9.50 an hour to $11 an hour. Individuals interested in Census 2000 jobs are encouraged to call and make an appointment as soon as possible. Job opportunities include census taker positions in communities and neighborhoods, and office personnel. Hinojos celebrates first birthday

Gabriel Hinjos, Jr. celebrated his first birthday on Sunday, Dec. 12, at his home in Midland.

Theme for the event was Mickey Mouse.

His favorite give was a Rocking Horse given to him by his parents.

He is the son of Gabriel and Anna Hinojos of Midland.

Garden club has Christmas party, meeting

The Merry Home and Garden Club met at the West of the Pecos Museum for their monthly meeting and annual Christmas Party.

As part of their Christmas sharing, members brought canned goods for the food bank.

They also sponsored a Christmas tree at themuseum, which was decorated by school children.

A report was given on Christmas fruit cake sales. Proceeds from this sale are donated for projects that beautify our city, such as for the museum courtyard and the Pecos Tree Board.

All members brought cookies and participated in a cookie exchange.

After delicious refreshments, brought by members, Christmas cards were exchanged.
