Former Pecosite hits the field

Former Pecos student Jeremy Florez is playing football with Great Midland Football League. The Panthers had an undefeated season due to a great coaching staff and team effort. A playoff was held in Midland on Nov. 6, aginst the Broncos, 34-6. Florez is the son of Isabel and Danny Flores, formerly of Pecos.

Holland nets award at convention

KWTS-FM 91.1, West Texas A&M University's radio station, picked up five first-place awards at the International Radio and Television Society's Regional Convention Nov. 4-6 in Little Rock, Ark.

"WT won more awards and had more participants attend than any other school," said Dr. Leigh Browning, director of broadcasting and assistant professor of mass communications, said. "We have a very talented group of students here, and we obviously stand up to the competition from other schools."

Mike Mann, a senior broadcast major from Friona, won first-place in Audio Commercial/Promotion/Public Service Announcement (PSA) for "Trails," a series of public service announcements that air on KGNC-Radio.

Lisa Schmidt, a senior broadcast major from Canyon and Larry Hutton, a senior broadcast major from Boys Ranch, won first place in Video Commercial/PSA Commercial for "Break dancing," a commercial from the "WB at WT" series broadcast on the Warners Brothers Networkand used to promote WTAMU.

Hutton and Leia Holland, a senior broadcast major from Pecos, won first place in Video Promotional/Corporate for "Buffalo Gold Card" video. The video is used to promote the campus card system.

Paula Bourn, a junior broadcast major from McKinney, and Stuart Boslow, a sophomore broadcast major from Plano, won first place in Audio Radio Drama for "Time Travelers."

Taylor Robinson, a junior broadcast major from Canyon, Hutton and Schmidt won first place in Video/Experimental Programming for "Butt Smackers."

WTAMU competed against colleges and universities in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

GED Testing planned

GED Testing will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30 and Thursday, Dec. 2, from 5-9 p.m.

Registration will be held Monday, Nov. 29, from 1-5:30 p.m., at 320 S. Oak, Suite 4.
