Granado boys join military

Arnulfo "Bam Bam" L. Granado joined the United States Army and is currently in basic training in Fort Benning, Ga.

He is a 1997 Pecos High School graduate.

His brother, Raul L. Granado joined the United States Marines and is in training in Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif.

He is a 1999 graduate of Pecos High School.

Both are the sons of Arnulfo Granado Jr. and Mary Jane Granado.

Grandparents are Pedro and Fidencia Lopez and Arnulfo Sr. and Ramona Granado.

Local students named to national list

A total of five students from this area are among the approximately 120,000 students included in the 22nd Annual Edition of The National Dean's List, 1998-1999. The National Dean's List, published by Educational Communications, Inc., is the largest recognition program and publication in the nation honoring high achieving college students.

Local students selected included, are Llamel D. Camarena, who is attending the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Jennifer M. Dominguez, who is attending Saint Mary's University.

Also, Kevin R. Castillo and Daniel S. Clark, both of Balmorhea, who are currently attending Sul Ross State University.

From Barstow, Jesus J. Hernandez, attending the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

Students are selected for this honor by their college deans, registrars or honor society advisors and must be in the upper 10 percent of their class, on their school's "Dean's List," or have earned a comparable honor. Listed students are eligible to compete for $50,000 in scholarship awards funded by the publisher, and may also use a referral service for future employment opportunities. Gordita plate sale set

A Gordita Plate Sale will be held beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, at Santa Rosa Hall.

Plate will include two gorditas, rice, beans, and salad, for $4.

Gorditas will be available, asado, chile verde con carne and meat and potato.

Deliveries will be made on four plates or more.
