Laurence arrives at training camp
Army Pvt. Haughton D. Laurence has arrived at Fort Knox, Ky., to complete
basic combat training.
During the eight weeks of training, the soldier will receive instruction
in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy,
military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.
Laurence is the son of Pamela A. Laurence and Paul D. Laurence, both
of Pecos.
The private is a 1999 graduate of Pecos High School.
OC closes for staff meeting
Odessa College will be closed Friday, Oct. 15, for staff development.
Campus offices will be closed and no classes will be conducted. College
offices will resume their normal schedule on Monday.
The Odessa College Sports Center will not be affected by the closing
and will observe normal operating hours.

Barbecue plate sale set
A Barbecue Plate Sale will be held beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct.
16, at the St. Catherine Church.
Individuals can eat in or carry out.
Plates will be $4.50 each and deliveries will be made on five plate
orders or more.
