Box nets degree from Tarleton

Two commencements were held to accommodate the candidates for graduation at Tarleton State University.

Lori Baize Box, of Pecos, was one of the graduates from Tarleton. She earned a BS degree in Speech Communications.

Tarleton faculty members Dr. Don Knotts, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Technology, and Dr. Linda Jones, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs were commencement speakers. The Texas A&M University System was represented by Dr. Stanton Calvert, Vice Chancellor for State and Public Affairs, and Dr. Susan Wynn, a member of the TAMUS Board of Regents.

Tarleton State University President Dr. Dennis P. McCabe recognized 12 members of the summer 1999 graduating class as Departmental Outstanding Graduates has become a tradition at the University as each academic department has the opportunity to recognize one of its major who excels in academics and leadership. Candidates are nominated and selected by faculty and administration from that major department.

Local students make Dean's List

More than 360 Texas Tech University students qualified for academic honors list at the end of the summer semesters.

Students on the President's List earned a 4.0 (A) grade point average while enrolled in 12 or more semester hours of class work. Students who earned 12 or more hours with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 qualified for the Dean's List.

Area students making the honor rolls included, Bryan Paul Brownlee, of Pecos, who was listed on the Dean's List and Beverly Jo Gallego, of Pecos, majoring in Mass Communications, also named to the Dean's List.

Study club plans trip

Modern Study Club members will meet at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Calvary Baptist Church parking lot to carpool for a field trip to Odessa for an Arts Department program with chairman, Joyce Morton, in charge.

The day's activities will include viewing of the photography exhibit at the Ellen Noel Art Institute, a dutch treat luncheon and a photograph excursion.

The thought-quote for the meetign is "To view or not to view - it's up to you." Roll call is to be answered was a factual bit of history about the camera.

Hostesses for the day will be Hazel Barmore and Lena Harpham.

The project for this bi-monthly meeting of The Modern Study Club is maintenance of the West of the Pecos Museum Bridal Suite.
