Powells have anniversary party
Prater and Frances Powell celebrated their 60th anniversary recently
with a family dinner at Southland Arms Club House in San Angelo on July
17.
The couple married July 15, 1939, in Portales, N.M. They have three
children; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Hosts for the anniversary party were the daughters and son-in-laws;
Mr. and Mrs. James Pohl of Halletsville, Tx.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kunath
of San Angelo; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hensley of Denison, Tx.
Children of the Powell's include Frances Marian Pohl of Halletsville;
Glenda Jon Kunath of San Angelo and Cornelia Ann Hensley of Denison.
Other attendees included Jim and Sharla Pohl and Danielle and Kara of
Yoakum; Carl Kunath; Mary Frances Regenbrecht and Kurt, Jace and Hailey
of Nauasota, Tx.; Beth Hensley Pilkilton and Roger, Alexis, Brittany, Elizabeth
Denison; Jerry Hensley of Denison; James and Ruth Ann Pohl of Halletsville;
Lloyd Powell of Arlington; Nadine Lavender, and his sister Frances of Sherman;
F.D. and Jean Prater of Dallas and Bill and Peggy Prater of Portales, N.M.
The couple had previously lived in Portales, N.M., Vernon, Tx., Pecos
and San Angelo.
Mr. Powell has been employed in dairy farming and sales and service
Newell Oil Company in Pecos.
Mrs. Powell was tax-assessor collector in Pecos and retired in 1982
and retired from E&W Abstract in Pecos in 1989.
The couple are members of the Methodist Churches.
Prater Powell graduated from Portales, N.M. high school in 1937 and
Frances from Belton in 1938. Both attended Eastern New Mexico Junior College
in Portales, N.M.
Hernandez back in U.S. Army
Irene J. Hernandez has returned to Basic Combat Training and graduated
on July 22, following an injury.
She enlised in the United States Army on March 10. Duet to an injury
she was put in a physical therapy program to recover from leg injury and
stress fractures in the knees and ankle.
This took eight weeks of therapy and hard work and dedication to overcome.
On June 6, she returned to Basic Combat Training and graduated on July
22.
She is now moving to A.I.T. in Ft. Lee to continue her Army training
and education.
Youth camps set at churches
Youth camps for boys and girls ages 7-13 have begun today at St. Catherine's
Hall.
Another youth camp for boys and girls ages 14-33, will be held Friday,
July 30 at St. Catherine's Hall.
Youth can register at Santa Rosa Catholic Church or for those individuals
who took registration forms after mass on Sunday, return them completed
to Santa Rosa.
