Martinez named academic scholar


The United States Achievement announced that Alexandrea Martinez from Pecos, has been named an All-American Scholar.

The USAA has established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3, or higher, grade point average. Only scholars selected by a school instructor, counselor, or other qualified sponsor are accepted. These scholars are also eligible for other awards given by the USAA.

Martinez who attends Zavala Middle School, was nominated for this national award by Michelle Workman.

Martinez will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally.

"Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America's history. Certainly, winners of the All-American Scholar Awards should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement," said Dr. George Stevens, Executive Director of the United States Achievement Academy.

The Academy selects All-American Scholars upon the exclusive recommendation by teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors. Once awarded, the students my be recognized by the USSA for other honors.

Martinez is the daughter of Richard Sais Jr. of Ft. Stockton and Irene Martinez of Midland.

The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Andy Martinez Jr. of Pecos and Mrs. and Mrs. Ricardo Sais Sr. of Monahans.

Summer Golf Program set

Registration for the Summer Golf Program will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 1 at the Crockett Middle School Gym.

Classes begin Wednesday, June 2, Monday through Thursday at the Crockett Field.

First through 3rd graders will have golf lessons from 8-8:45 a.m.; 6th-7th graders will play golf from 9-9:45 a.m. and 4th through fifth graders from 10-10:45 a.m.

Eighth graders and high school students golf will be Monday through Thursday, 11-11:45 a.m. at the Crockett Field, and on Fridays, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Reeves County Golf Course.
