Youngsters participate in several rodeo events

Eleven-year-old Guthrie Long and five-year-old, Dakota Long are members of the Pro-Youth Rodeo Association. Guthrie participated in the steer riding and Dakota is a barrel racer.

Dakota is also a member of the 4-H Tri-County Horseshows. Guthrie is also a member of the High Plain Jr. Rodeo Assocociation, a member of the American Jr. Bullrider Association, and also rides in the Bullriding Series at Dos Amigos in Odessa and is a member of the 4-H Tri County Horseshows.

Guthrie has attended several rodeos this year. He's been in Stephenville, placed fourth; Athens placed first; Mineral Wells, and Cleburne, placed third and has placed first (twice) at Dos Amigos in Odessa.

His upcoming events include a ride in Cleburne, Stephenville, Lubbock, Clovis, N.M. and Ardmore, Okla.

Guthrie has an upcoming ride in Pecos on May 1. Dakota has a 4-H Tri-County Horseshow on April 10. These events will take place at the Buck Jackson Rodeo Arena.

Guthrie and Dakota are the children of Curt and Laurie Long and they have a little sister, Sierra, all of Pecos.

Burkhalter arrives at Air Base in Tokyo

Air Force Senior Airman Sheyney B. Burkhalter has arrived for duty at Yokota Air Base, Tokyo, Japan.

Burkhalter is a ground radar maintenance specialist assigned to the 374th Communications Squadron.

He is the grandson of Francisco and Juanita Granado of Pecos.

His wife, Maria, is the daughter of David and Cindi Murphy of Houston.

The senior airman is a 1994 graduate of Pecos High School.

Rabies clinic set

A Rabies Clinic will be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday, May 1, at the Pecos Animal Clinic, 1920 Balmorhea Highway, in Pecos.

Other vaccinations will also be offered at this time.
