Solis, Torres announce April wedding
Gilberto and Socorro Solis are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Daniel Solis, to their future daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Torres.
The prospective bride is the daughter of Isabel Torres of Lubbock.
Miss Torres graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in International Economics and is currently employed with Fujitsu Network Communications as a Trade Specialist.
The future groom graduated from Pecos High School and is currently employed with National Mortgage Link.
The couple plan to marry April 24, in Dallas, where they will reside thereafter.
Their honeymoon will be in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Students to be acknowledged
More than 1,000 students will be acknowledged for academic accomplishments during the 23rd annual Honors Convocation at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, at 2 p..m., Wednesday, April 7, in the Student Lounge.
The keynote address will be delivered by David M. Henderson, former provost and senior vice chancellor and professor emeritus, the University of Pittsburgh (retired, 1994). He earned both his bachelor's (1958) and master's (1959) degrees in sociology from Kent State University and holds a Ph.D (1967) in sociology from the University of Pittsburgh.
Each year during Honors Convocation, awards are given to the outstanding students in each discipline, as well as to the Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding Student Leader, and Outstanding Student Organization.
President's and Dean's Honor Roll students and all scholarship recipients for 1998 will be recognized. Faculty members also are cited for professional excellence.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony and reception.
