Wal-Mart awards funds to school
The Pecos Wal-Mart store presented Bessie Haynes Elementary School with
a grant in the amount of $500 recently.
The donation is part of the matching grant program funded by the Wal-Mart
Foundation.
Bessie Haynes will use the funds for attendance and achievement awards
for the students.
"We are thrilled to be able to support a variety of causes through funds
raised by this organizations and our associates," said Tim Bernicke, Pecos
Store Manager. "The money will be utilized for programs in our community
and we are glad to help them out. It is just part of Wal-Mart's ongoing
commitment to our communities where we conduct business.
In 1997, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., contributed more than $81 million to
Children's Miracle Network, United Way agencies and local non-profit organizations
in the communities they serve.
Lifeguard course offered
The American Red Cross of Southwest Texas is offering a lifeguard instructor
training course Friday, April 9 through Sunday, April 11.
Course fee is $150 per participant. Participants need to sign up 48
hours prior to starting date.
Participants may register at the Midland Office, at 2306 Elizabeth or
the Odessa Office, at 120 E. 2nd Street.
Pre-requisites for this course are that the participant must be 17 years
of age.
