Gonzales tells of son's birth


Tiffany Gonzales announce the birth of her son, Estevan
Miguel Gonzales.

Little Estevan was born Feb. 8, at 8:48 p.m., at Ward
Memorial Hospital in Monahans. He weighed nine pounds, eight
ounces and was 20½ inches long.

Welcoming him home were his uncles, Jason and Jacob Gonzales.

Grandparents are Miguel and Carol Gonzales of Barstow.

Great-grandparents are Eusebia G. Lopez of Barstow and Felix
Pallenes Jr. of Hobbs, N.M.

Great-great grandmothers are Alejandra Garcia of Barstow and
Francisca Pallanes of Hobbs, N.M.

Nursing ceremony planned for Friday


At 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at First Baptist Church, 506 S.
Alice Street in Monahans, the Odessa College vocational
nursing program in Monahans will hold a capping ceremony.
The ceremony signifies that the students have completed the
first half of their vocational nursing eduction.

Class of 1999 members are: Nicole Bennett, Tony Carrasco,
Melissa Cedeno, Patricia Cordova, Cammie Craft, Felisa
Fuentes, Nicole Gates, Ty Haulk, Joshua Hodgkins, Maria
Cevario, Eva Rodriguez, Wendy Mosier, Lori Porter, Pete
Ramos, Tekeya Smith, Jessica Tellez, Josie Todd, Claudia
Vasquez, Lori Wesley and Debbie Winemiller.

Fields speaker at Lenten Studies


The Reverend Joseph Thomas Fields, Jr. is the guest speaker
for the Lenten Studies being held at the First Presbyterian
Church, 4th and Plum streets.

The Lenten studies which began on Sunday, Feb. 21, will
continue until Wednesday, Feb. 24.

The focus of this study will be a close examination of what
unites us and divides us with other denominations. By
closely examining their beliefs, polity and practice in
light of and in comparison with our own beliefs, polity and
practice.

Sunday the topic of the study waqs, "What to Tell Your
Baptists Friends."

On Monday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m., the topic of discussion
will be, "Presbyterians and Roman Catholics"; Tuesday, will
be "Methodists and Presbyterians"; Wednesday, the study will
be, "An Overview of Fundamentalists, Evangelicals,
Pentecostals and Charismatics."

Rev. Fields, was born and raised in Louisville, Ky. He is
the youngest of three children and the only male. He
graduated from the Perkins School of Theology SMU, Dallas of
in 1991 with a Master of Divinity. His under-graduate degree
is in American History from the University of Louisville.

His wife, Mary, is a native Texan, and between them they
have five children and three granddaughters. Mary has had a
double career in the church. In addition to being a pastor's
wife, she also has had a busy, but rewarding career, as a
Church Administrator at two churches in the Dallas area.

Prior to Field's entry into the ministry as a second career,
he held a variety of positions in private industry. His last
"civilian" job was that of a Human Resource Specialist for a
jet engine overhaul shop at Dallas Love Field where he was
responsible for labor relations.

His previous ministry experience has been as a Chaplain at
Family Hospice in Fort Worth, while at the same time serving
as a stated supply for First Presbyterian Church, Canton.
Prior to his work with hospice, Fields served as the only
full-time chaplain working exclusively in Community Services
for Texas Mental Health Mental Retardation at Terrell State
Hospital, in Terrell, covering a 15-county area of northeast
Texas. He is currently serving as pastor of the First
Presbyterian Church in Monahans, as well, as the moderator
of this session.

A nursery will be provided in the education for everyone who
wishes to attend the Lenten Studies.
