Zapata graduates from training
PFC Gilbert Montez Zapata, Jr., son of Gilbert and Tula
Zapta of Morton, has graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit
Training Depot in San Diego, Calif.
He is a 1998 graduate of Morton High School.
Zapata is the grandson of Chon and Manuela Zapata of Morton.
He will return to San Diego, Calif., for a few weeks and
then will be stationed in Florida. He will serve five years
in the Marine Corps as an aviation electrician.
Area students get degrees
Sul Ross State University conferred degrees and certificates
on 190 students during summer commencement exercises held
Alpine campus graduates from this area include from Barstow,

Those that graduated and are from Pecos are Faustino G.
Acosta, Jr., Master of Education, Physical Education; James
W. Exum, Associate of Applied Science, Meat Technology,
Bachelor of Science, Meat Industry Management and Francisco
N. Morin, Master of Education, School Administration.
Fort Davis graduate was Charles D. Prude, Master of
Education, School Administration.
Monahans graduates were Bonnie A. Benad, Master of
Education, Counseling; Diane Lee Robertson, Bachelor of
Arts, Political Science; Gary Wayne Vaden, Master of
Mac McKinnon, Publisher
