Eagles' Terry to run in 200 at meet in EP

Pecos Eagles' sophomore Rashad Terry, who wasn't able to compete for a spot at the Class 3A Track and Field Championships, will get a chance to run against some college-level competition this Saturday at the UTEP Twilight Meet at Kidd Field in El Paso.

Terry won the 200 meters at the District 4-3A meet in Kermit back on April 11, but was one of two runners off the Eagles' district championship team who were not eligible to run at last weekend's Region I-3A meet in Odessa. Instead, he'll run unattatched in the 200 at the UTEP meet this weekend, which will feature both college teams and other unattached and track club competitors. The Miners, New Mexico and New Mexico State are among the teams entered in the meet.

Terry ran a 21.68 to win the 200 at district. At this past weekend's Region I-3A meet in Odessa, Abilene Wylie's Adam Baugh won the 200 with a 21.72 time.

The meet will begin on Saturday with field events at 3 p.m., while running events start at 6 p.m. with the 400 meter relay. The women's pole vault will start at 4 p.m. and the men's pole vault is scheduled for 6 p.m. The 200 meter dash is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. MDT (9:05 p.m. CDT).

Admission for the event is free.

Youth hoops, softball, T-ball signups underway

The Reeves County Community Sports and Recreation Department is signing up boys and girls for youth basketball and T-ball programs, while girls also are being registered for the RCCRD's youth softball league.

Softball and 3-on-3 sign-ups run through next Friday, May 9. The basketball is open to boys and girls entering grades 7 through 9 in August. Students can pick up enrollment forms at the RCCRD office at the old Pecos High School gym.

The softball league is open to girls ages 7 through 15, while the T-ball program is for boys and girls ages 4-7. Forms for those leagues can also be picked up at the RCCRD office during regular hours.

Registration for all three sports is $10 per child, and a birth certificate along with signatures from both parents must be provided when the forms are returned.

For further information on any of the activities, contact the Recreation Department at 447-9776.
