Junior high teams wind up 5th, 6th at meet

Pecos' junior high boys teams finished fifth and the girls teams placed sixth this past Saturday, in the District 4-3A Track and Field meet for seventh and eighth graders at Eagle Stadium.

The seventh grade girls actually picked up more points than the seventh grade boys by a 63-41 margin, while in the eighth grade division Pecos' boys finished with 53 points and the girls wound up with 32 points.

Monahans' boys and girls won both the seventh and eighth grade divisions at the six-team meet. The seventh grade boys won by a 170-152 margin over Kermit and the girls by a 185-108 margin over the Yellowjackets. In the eighth grade division, Monahans' girls scored 163 points to 116 for Greenwood and the boys had 194 points to 123 for Fort Stockton.

For Pecos' eighth grade boys, Larry Johnson placed second in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, with 12.18 and 24.92 times. Pecos also took third in both the 400 and 800 meter relays, Johnson was fifth in the high jump, Murphy Tremble was fourth and Travis Walker fifth in the 400-meter dash, and the Eagles' 1600 meter relay team finished in sixth place.

On the girls' side, the best finish came from Bianca Baeza, who was third in the 400 meter dash with a 69.40 time. She was also fourth in the triple jump, while Dina Ortiz was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and the shot put, Jenny Palomino was fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump, Adrianna Armendariz was sixth in the 200 meter dash and the four girls also placed fourth in the 400 meter relay.

Pecos' only first place finish came inn the seventh grade girls' division, where Diana Parada won the triple jump. She was also third in the long jump, while Sanda Orosco was third in the 800 meter run and fifth in the 400 meters, Daphne Navarette was fourth in the long jump, Sada Orona was fifth in both the shot put and the 100 meter dash, and Gia Lujan was sixth in the shot put.

Parada, Orosco, Navarette and Cheyenne Carrasco also were second in the 1600 meter relay and Parada, Orona, Navarette and Orosco were third in the 800 meter relay. The 400 meter relay team for Pecos finished sixth.

For the seventh grade boys, the best finish was a second by Matthew Flores in the 100 meter dash, with a 13 flat time. Marcos Luna was three-tenths of a second behind and finished fourth, while Flores and Luna were fourth and sixth in the 200 meter dash.

Flores also took fifth in the long jump, while Gerald Saenz was fifth in the 400 meter dash, the Eagles' 400 meter relay team finished third and the 1600 meter relay team took fifth.
