Youth sports injuries higher
Sports may be hazardous to the health of our youth.
"Of the 30 million young people involved in organized sports, 10 percent
of them will suffer a sports-related injury," said Dr. Albert Hergenroeder,
professor of adolescent and sports medicine at Baylor College of Medicine
in Houston.
According to Hergenroeder, many new injuries occur because past injuries
are not properly rehabilitated. Athletes often suffer loss of strength,
flexibility and endurance when injuries are ignored. Watch out for "star"
athletes who are more likely to return to competition before being fully
recovered.
