Rayos named Employee of Year
PECOS, Feb. 3, 2003 - Julia Rayos was named Employee of the Year at the Reeves County Detention Center, an honor that
she worked hard to achieve, according to RCDC Rudy Franco.
Rayos completed 11 years of her education in the Pecos school system and later graduated from Carlsbad High School, Class
of 1967.
She maintains a positive and upbeat disposition, and she is the proud mother of one daughter, Anna Marie Ortiz of Nashville,
Tenn.
Rayos enjoys music, volleyball, traveling, spending time with her friends and a good "mushy" soap opera.
She has been employed at the Reeves County Detention Center since Aug. 7, 2000.
"Julia has come a long way in a short period of time and has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to the Food Service
Department, as well as RCDC," said Franco.
Rayos has advanced from CO-I to CO-II to CO-III in only two years. "She has worked diligently and should be proud of all
of her accomplishments," said Franco.
Rayos' responsibilities include, but are not limited to maintaining security, safety, sanitation and control of the institution,
continuously executing her responsibilities as a Cook Foreman as well as other positions throughout the Food Service
Department.
"She assists in ensuring that meals are nutritionally adequate, properly prepared and attractively served," said Franco. "She also
aims to provide inmates with accurate nutritional information, which enables them to determine and establish healthy eating
habits that may enhance their quality of life," he said.
Rayos also helps provide inmates assigned to the Food Service Department, with the opportunity to acquire skills and abilities
that may assist in obtaining employment after their release.
"She maintains the utmost sanitation standards and aspired to identify, develop and manage essential resources to meet the
operational needs of this facility," said Franco.
"We are proud of our employee of the month," said Franco. "We wish her well in her endeavors and with her future here at the
facility," he said.
