Study club plans meeting

The Modern Study Club will meet at 3:30 p.m., in the parlor of the First Christian Church on Wednesday, Jan. 22, for an Americanism Department Program entitled, "Bicentennial Celebration of Lewis and Clark Expedition, 1804-1806." Paula Fuller, chairman of the Americanism Department, planned the program and will make the presentation.

The thought-quote for the meeting is _ "We set out early and proceeded to the top of the mountain…from this point I beheld the grandest and most pleasing prospects which my eyes ever surveyed." _ William Clark, Jan. 8, 1806.

Roll Call will be answered by giving the name of a state, river, Indian Tribe site, or city Lewis and Clark passed through on their expedition.

Projects for this bi-monthly meeting are contributions to "Operation Smile" and the giving of Valentines for residents of the Pecos Nursing Home.

Serving as hostesses for the meeting will be Nan Cate, Margie Williamson and Phyllis Stool.

Martinez named to Dean's List

Following the fall semester at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, 532 students were named to the SAU Dean's List, with 181 of those students making all A's.

To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must be registered in 12 or more semester hours and attain a grade point average of 3.50 or above.

Students who were named to the Dean's List from the Pecos area include: Ricky Martinez, a junior health, kineasology, and recreation major.

Aguilar receives Merit Award in U.S. Marines

Marine Corps Cpl. Eric A. Aguilar, son of Emma Aguilar of Pecos, recently received a Meritorious Mast for outstanding service by being officially recognized by his commanding officer for superior performance.

Aguilar received the recognition while assigned to with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Aguilar joined the Marine Corps in June 2000.
