Graham earns runner-up spots in tournaments

Pecos High School tennis player Trent Graham advanced to the finals of two recent tournaments held in Lubbock and San Antonio.

Graham reached the title match in his division last month at the USTA-sponsored Highway 80 Championship Junior Major Zone, held in Lubbock, going 3-1 in his matches. He defeated Derek Aceredo of Lubbock, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1; Daniel Frid of Dallas, 6-2, 6-1; and another Dallas player, Nick Monier, 6-1, 6-3, before falling in the tournament finals to a third Dallas area player, Patrick Fogiel of Highland Park, 6-2, 6-4.

The second place finish qualified Graham for the super-championship level of the USTA.

This past week in the Alamo City Super Championships in San Antonio, Graham also went 3-1, falling to another Dallas area player in the championship match. He defeated Terence Nolan of San Antonio, 6-4, 6-3; Manuel Saenz of New Braunfels, 6-2, 6-4; and Tomak Czernuszewicz of Miissouri City, 6-2, 6-3, before falling in the title match, 6-3, 6-1, to A.J. Nouri of Richardson.

Graham won the District 2-4A singles title this past spring, advancing to the Region I-4A Tournament before falling to No. 1 seed Andrew Ulrich of Wichita Falls Rider in the tournament quarterfinals.
