Tournament play opens Friday for 9-10 LLers

Tournament play will get underway early this year for the Pecos 9-10 year old Little League All-Stars, who will be traveling to San Angelo this coming weekend for the area round of the District 4 Tournament.

There will be two brackets in the area round, both in the San Angelo area, and the championship round will also be in San Angelo next week. Pecos, which was eliminated in three games in last year's District 4 Tournament, drew an opening round bye this year, and will face the winner of the Ballinger-San Angelo Northern game at 5 p.m. on Friday at Northern's Little League field, located on West 19th Street in San Angelo.

The winner of that game will advance to the area round semifinal game at 8 p.m. on Saturday versus either San Angelo Southern or North Concho. The winner of that game automatically moves on to the championship semifinals on the Fourth of July at San Angelo Western.

If Pecos loses on Friday, they'll play elimination round game on Saturday at 5 p.m., while the winner of that game will play the loser of Saturday's 8 p.m. game for the right to remain alive in a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.

Wall faces Winters and San Angelo Western faces San Angelo Lake View in the other half of the bracket, which will be held at Lake View's field.

Orlando Fuentes is the manager of this year's group of 9-10 Little League All-Stars, with Brian Fuentes and Pablo Briones as coaches. Players on this year's team are Matthew Rodriguez, Kevin Fuentes, Edmundo Dominguez, Isaiah Patino, Jake Varela, Jake Lopez, Justin Ybarra, Robert Herrera, Arthur Navarrette, Ruben Orona, Joe Rey Tarango and Everett Parker. All of the players on this year's All-Star team are first-time selections.

Play in the 11-12 year old Little League All-Star division and in the 12-13 year old Junior League division will begin in July.
