Local youth swim awards are given out
Awards were given out to top swimmers for the 2001-2002 season recently
by the Pecos Aquatic Club, during their annual spring banquet.
Outstanding swimmer for age 6 and under was Grace Abbott, while in the
8 and under division Alexcia Mendoza was the outstanding swimmer for the
girls and Bradley Shaw won the honor for the boys. In the 9-10 age group,
Conner Armstrong was named best swimmer for the girls and Michael Blanchard
for the boys, while Gus Mendoza was named most improved swimmer.
For the 11-12 year olds, Vanessa Galindo and Matt Oglesby were named as
the outstanding swimmers, and in the 13-14 group, those honors went to Lindsey
Shaw and Matt Elliott. Kyle Winkles won the award for Best All-Around Swimmer
for the Aquatic Club this past season.
Tree ID guide available
"What Tree Is That?," a pocket guide for identifying trees, is available
from the National Arbor Day Foundation.
The 72-page guide will help you identify 135 different trees found in
the eastern and central United States. Well-known trees included are oaks,
maples, spruces and pines and pecan. Dozens of drawings illustrate the trees'
leaves or needles and their acorns, berries, seed pods, cones and other identifying
features.
