Golden Girl Nominee

Denise Chabarria

Denise Ann Chabarria, is the 16-year-old daughter of Rosemary and Jacinto Chabarria.

She is being sponsored by Desiree Boutique and Robert's Construction.

Miss Chabarria is a member of the Pecos High School Eagle Echo; tennis team; an upcoming Junior Varsity Cheerleader; Pecos Eagle Band Member for two years; member of the Pecos High School Flag line for one year; member of the Pecos Youth Advisory Commission for the year 2000-2001 and Bell Ringer for the year 2001-2002.

Following high school graduation, she plans to go to the Art Institute of Dallas and pursue her goal in culinary arts and become a pastry chef.

Her hobbies include shopping, baking, watching movies, surfing the Internet, listening to music and spending time with friends and family.

"After graduation, I plan to move to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and become a pastry chef," said Chabarria. "I also have an interest in nursing and hope to achieve my goal of helping kids get well as the nurses did for me," she said.

Miss Chabarria said she also plans to volunteer a lot of her time working with families at the Ronald McDonald House in the Dallas/Forth Worth area.

Cross, Velasco announce June wedding plans in Pecos

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Carmen Perea Cross of Tamp Bay, Florida announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Lynn Cross of Houston, to Juan Gabriel Gonzales Velasco of Houston.

The bride to be is a 1999 graduate of Duquesne Univeristy in Pittsburg, Penn.

The future groom is the son of the late Dolores Velasco and grandson of Aurelio Velasco and Dolores Padilla of Mexico City.

The couple will wed at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 29, at Santa Rosa De  Lima Catholic Church in Pecos.
