Rec department's T-ball, chess deadlines Friday

Today and Friday are the final two days to enroll children in the Reeves County Community Sports and Recreation Department youth T-Ball leagues and summer chess classes, while sign-ups also are going on for men's summer basketball at the recreation department office in the old Pecos High School gym.

Registration for the men's league is $22 per player, with a limit of 10 players per team. For T-Ball and chess, registration is $10 per child.

The T-Ball league is divided into two age groups and is open to children between the ages of 4 and 7. The chess classes will be divided into beginners and intermediate classes and will run two days a week for six weeks.

Parents can pick up enrollment forms at the recreation department office at the old Pecos High School gym during regular office hours. For further information, contact the recreation department office at 447-9776.

Eagles announce date change for homecoming game

Pecos Eagles head football coach Gary Grubbs said Wednesday that the announced date for the Eagles' 2002 homecoming football game has been changed.

Homecoming for the Eagles will be on Sept. 20 against the Brownfield Cubs instead of on Oct. 4 against the Lubbock High Westerners, as originally announced. The change was made in order to avoid a conflict with the Reeves County Fall Fair, which is the first weekend in October.

Brownfield will be the Eagles' second of five regular season home games during 2002. They'll host Lamesa on Sept. 13 and will play two home games against their five District 4-3A rivals _ Oct. 18 against Presidio and Nov. 1 versus Fort Stockton.

Pecos' 2002 season will open in Alpine on Sept. 6. The Eagles' other road games are Sept. 27 at Crane, Oct. 11 at Kermit, Oct. 25 in Monahans and Nov. 8 at Midland Greenwood. All 10 games this season will be 7:30 p.m. starts.

Summer golf sign-ups scheduled next Tuesday

Registration for the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD summer golf program has been scheduled for next Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crockett Middle School gym, according to golf coach Tina Hendrick.

The summer program will begin on Monday, June 3, and elementary school students will participate in the early morning hours, while students going into Grades 8-12 will have their classes from 11-11:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday at the Crockett field and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Fridays at the Reeves County Golf Course.

Supplies needed are golf clubs, three golf balls, tees and a cap or hat. Water bottles are optional. For further information, contact coach Hendrick at 447-9347.
