Manriquez gets med scholarship

Nicholas Manriquez, a first year student in the College of Pediatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center (DMU), has received the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Merit Scholarship for the 2001-2002 academic year. He will be honored at the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery's Scholarship Banquet on Jan. 22.

He is the son of Nick Manriquez of Pecos.

Natividad joins delayed program

Jaime B. Natividad has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty.

The recruit qualifies for an $11,000 enlistment bonus.

Natividad, a 2000 graduate of Pecos High School, will report for basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

His parents are Ruben R. and Margarita B. Natividad of Pecos.

OC Student Art Space series presents program

The Odessa College Student Art Space Series presents, "Famous Faces" through Jan. 31.

The exhibit is on display at Student Art Space, the OC student gallery, located in Sedate Hall, Room 111, and features 20 high-contrast pencil drawings created by Drawing I class students. The dramatic black and white images include John Lennon, Willie Nelson, Alfred Einstein, Jeremy Irons and others.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
