Cearley attends annual convention in San Angelo

Several ladies of The Modern Study Club attended a banquet Friday night held at the Holiday Inn in San Angelo by the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs during their 104th Annual Convention.

The Heart of Texas District hosted the event with the theme: Bridges to Texas History. Some of the ladies are from Western District, one of the 10 districts that comprise the whole of Texas. They are: Jackie Hendricks of Midland, WD Recording Secretary and 1980-1982 WD President; Bonnie Cearley, of Early and formerly of Pecos of The Modern Study Club; Doris Moorman, MSC Vice President; JoAnne McClurg of Midland, 1994-1996 WD President; Peggy Kelton of McCamey, current Western District President; Emily Delle of Marfa, WD District Life Member; Margie Williamson, WD Photographer and MS Club Reporter; Bobbe Mitchell, of Sanderson, WD President 1986-1988 and President-Elect of TFWC; Catherine Travland of Pecos, President of The Modern Study Club; Francis Dunn, of Odessa, WD President 1990-1992; Joyce Morton of Pecos, WD Arts and Crafts Chairman and MSC Secretary and Sherry Phillips of McCAmey, WD Constitution and By-Laws Chairman.

Bonnie Cearley served as Western District President 1978-1980, was chosen TFWC Life Member several years ago and is currently a TFWC Life Member Emeritus.

She has served in many capacities at the local, district and state levels and received recognition as a 50-year member several years ago. Attendees at the convention all joined in singing a belated, "Happy Birthday" to Cearley during the festivities.

Seijas ends Basic Training

Adam Jasso Seijas completed Basic Training and participated in a Marine Core Graduation ceremony at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif., on Sept. 7.

He is a 2001 graduate of Pecos High School.

Seijas will be attending MCT Training at San Diego for two months, for the field of Motor Transportation. After completing his service he plans on finding a career in U.S. Customs.

He is the son of Merced De La Garza and step-father Edel R. De La Garza of Pecos.

Alzheimer's group plans meeting

The Pecos Daytime Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday, in the Reeves County Hospital Classroom.

The Pecos Evening Alzheimer's Support Group Alzheimer's Support Group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 4 p.m., at the Pecos Senior Center.
