Community plans concerts in Pecos

The Senior Managing Director of the Trawick  Artists/Community Concerts, Mary Lyon Camper, and the Field Representative,  Cherie Lawson, as well as Francine Weaver and Ann Andrews, of the  Midland Community Concert Association, were in Pecos recently to  present the idea of a Community Concert series for Pecos.

Seventeen interested community members attended the presentation.

Community Concerts was founded in 1927 with the mission of bringing the experience of live performances to music lovers in all parts of the country. Since its inception, the organization has presented countless world-renowned artists, including pianist Van Cliburn, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, violinist Yehudi Menuhin, contralto Marian Andreson, and the Von Trapp Family Singers, made famous in "The Sound of Music," and the Dixie Chicks. Today Community Concerts has close to 400 member Associations, each presenting anywhere from one to six different concerts per season.

Although classical music continues to be the backbone of Community Concert programs, the organization has branched out to embrace the full spectrum of concert formats, including jazz, pop, musical theater, folk, and dance.

As a result of the meeting, a number of those attending signed on to the Board of Directors, and will soon being planning for a Community Concert series in Pecos.

Any who were not able to attend the meeting, but are interested in serving on the Board of Directos, should call Bruce Abbott at 445-5471 or 447-9225.
