Home run in final inning eliminates 9-10 All-Stars
The Pecos Little League All-Stars in the 9-10 year old division saw their
District 4 Tournament stay ended abruptly Monday night by the North Concho
All-Stars.
North Concho, which had lost to Pecos in Saturday's tournament opener,
used a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Pecos
by a 2-1 final score in an elimination round game. The Little Leaguers
had dropped into the loser's bracket on Sunday, following a 22-4 loss at
San Angelo Western.
Timo Reyes, who allowed only one run in Saturday's win, took the loss
while going the distance in Monday's game. North Concho got their winning
hit on a 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the sixth, after tying the game on
a triple and sacrifice fly.
Pecos' lone run came in the top of the first inning, thanks to a bases-loaded
walk to Dane Daniel.
While summer tournament play ended quickly for the 9-10 year olds, the
District 4 tournaments for the 11-12 year old Little Leaguers and the 13-14
Junior League All-Star squad won't get underway until this Saturday.
The Little Leaguers will open defense of the 2000 District 4 title with
a 5 p.m. game at San Angelo Western, while the Junior League squad, which
contains several players off last year's Little League team, start their
District 4 Tournament one hour later and about 10 miles to the north, in
Grape Creek against San Angelo Lake View.
