Golden Girl Nominee

Nikki Walker

Nikki Walker is the 16-year-old daughter of Toyah Crisp and Bret Walker.

She is sponsored by Barmore Plumbing, Reeves County Sheriff's Posse, Reeves County Sheriff's Office, Scott Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Crum.

Miss Walker volunteers for Christmas in July, Toys for Tots and barbecue benefits.

She is an honor roll student; a member of the yearbook staff as academic editor; played volleyball and basketball her freshman and sophomore years, for freshman and junior varsity; was a member of FFA her freshman year and placed second in Judging Cattle in Lubbock. She was Sweetheart for the Reeves County Sheriff's Posse from 1997-2000 and participated in many activities.

Following graduation from high school, she plans to attend UT San Antonio and pursue a career in law.

Miss Walker enjoys volunteering, spending time with family and friends, sports, singing and dancing.

"The 29th of June, my Poppie would have been 65, and that day is special for two reasons, I feel it is a sign, he will be with me on his birthday," said Walker. "Because family is very important to me, I love you all," she said.

Religious poems sought for contest

The Bards of Burbank is offering a $1,000 grand prize in their Poetry Competition 2000, free to everyone. The deadline for entering is July 5, 2001.

To enter, send one poem 21 lines or less: Free Poetry Contest, PMB250, 2219 W. Olive Ave., Burbank, CA 91506, you may enter online at www.friendlypoets.com.

"We think religious poems can invite achievement," says Dr. John Scribner, the organization's Contest Director. "We're especially keen on inspiring amateur poets and we think this competition will achieve that. Texas has made many wonderful poets over the years and I'd like to discover new ones from among the Pecos-area grassroots poets," he said.
