Swimmers earn Academic All-America honors
A trio of Pecos Eagle senior swimmers have received Academic All-American
honors for the 2000-2001 school year.
Grant Holland, JoAnn Wein and Randall Reynolds were honored along with
other Pecos High School athletes during last Thursday's All-Sports Banquet
at the new Pecos High School gym. The honor is given to seniors who have
a minimum 3.75 grade point average and have been members of the varsity swimming
team for at least three of their four years in high school while achieving
minimum time standards for their events.
Holland is a four-year varsity swimmer and has a 4.30 GPA. This past season,
he placed second at regionals in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the
200 individual medley. He also was a member of the 200 and 400-yard freestyle
relay teams that qualified for the UIL Class 4A State Swimming and Diving
Finals.
Wein also is a four-year varsity swimmer who has a 4.27 GPA and qualified
for the Class 4A state finals individually in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles,
while setting a new 4A regional record in the 500 free. She was also a member
of the 200 medley relay team that advanced to state in February.
Reynolds has been a member of the varsity swim team for the past three
seasons, and set a new Class 4A regional record while winning the 500 yard
freestyle this season. He also placed third at regional in the 200 freestyle
and was a member of the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relay teams that advanced
to state competition in Austin.
The three were honored again on Monday during the annual Pecos High School
Senior Awards Ceremony, held at the PHS auditorium.
