Clark exhibits steer in show

PECOS, February 14, 2001 - Courtney Clark of the Pecos FFA Chapter exhibited a Reserve Champion Hereford in the Junior Steer Show on Feb. 1, at the 105th Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show. This outstanding event was judged by Jack Ward of LaGrange, Indiana. There were 1898 head entered in the steer show.
The Stock Show's Junior Division this year is hosting a record 9,224 entries by youth of Texas as the culmination of yearlong agricultural educational projects in various areas of livestock production. Junior premiums will exceed $64,038.
The junior entry list is part of the overall count of more than 22,000 head of cattle, sheep, swine, horses, mules, donkeys, llamas, goats, poultry, pigeons, and rabbits. The 105th Annual Stock Show, underway at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, will continue through Sunday, Feb. 4. Total prize and premium money for the livestock show and its accompanying World's Original Indoor Rodeo will be in excess of $800,000.
The Stock Show is a major opportunity to showcase the livestock industry as well as a growing metroplex. The 800,000 visitors to the show during its 17-day run will include many people from nations outside the United States. Last year the show hosted visitors from 73 other countries.
Tickets to the family oriented event are available at the Will Rogers box office at the center's north entrance. Ground admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children 6-16. Rodeo tickets, which include admission to the grounds, are $16 for weekday matinees and evenings, and $18 for Friday nights and all weekend performances.

Lowery earns degree at Texas Tech

PECOS, February 14, 2001 - More than 1,500 students at Texas Tech University received degrees during 2000 fall commencement exercises.
Graduating students from Pecos included, Kelly Blake Cox Lowery, who earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in multidisciplinary studies.
She is the daughter of Peggy and Doug Cox of Pecos.

Barbecue plate sale set

PECOS, February 14, 2001 - A Barbecue Plate Sale will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Reeves County Sheriff's Posse Barn.
For orders and deliveries call 445-3400.
The proceeds will go towards medical bills for Denise Chabarria.
