PECOS, February 14, 2001 - Courtney Clark of the Pecos FFA Chapter exhibited
a Reserve Champion Hereford in the Junior Steer Show on Feb. 1, at the
105th Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show. This outstanding
event was judged by Jack Ward of LaGrange, Indiana. There were 1898 head
entered in the steer show.
The Stock Show's Junior Division this year is hosting a record 9,224
entries by youth of Texas as the culmination of yearlong agricultural educational
projects in various areas of livestock production. Junior premiums will
exceed $64,038.
The junior entry list is part of the overall count of more than 22,000
head of cattle, sheep, swine, horses, mules, donkeys, llamas, goats, poultry,
pigeons, and rabbits. The 105th Annual Stock Show, underway
at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, will continue through
Sunday, Feb. 4. Total prize and premium money for the livestock show and
its accompanying World's Original Indoor Rodeo will be in excess of $800,000.
The Stock Show is a major opportunity to showcase the livestock industry
as well as a growing metroplex. The 800,000 visitors to the show during
its 17-day run will include many people from nations outside the United
States. Last year the show hosted visitors from 73 other countries.
Tickets to the family oriented event are available at the Will Rogers
box office at the center's north entrance. Ground admission is $7 for adults
and $3 for children 6-16. Rodeo tickets, which include admission to the
grounds, are $16 for weekday matinees and evenings, and $18 for Friday
nights and all weekend performances.
