Cabral has first birthday
PECOS, July 27, 2000 - Amanda Cabral celebrated her first birthday, July
15th. Family and friends enjoyed cake and refreshments in the
backyard, which was decorated with the Bear in the Big Blue House theme.
She is the daughter of Manuel and Marisella Cabral of Albuquerque, NM.
Her paternal grandparents are Teodoro and Consuelo Cabral of Pecos. Her
maternal grandmother is Alma Ramirez of Albuquerque, NM.
Williams wins grand prize
PECOS, July 27, 2000 - Nine year old Phillip Williams won the grand prize
for the Quaker Oats Company sweepstakes "Where's the Cap'n?"
Phillip, whose favorite cereal is Captain Crunch, filled out the sweepstakes
entry form on the back of the box. The form asked three clues to where
the "Cap'n" is and Phillip correctly answered them.
By winning the grand prize, Phillip received a $100 check from the Quaker
Oats Company.
Phillip's father said he had never known anyone who has won anything
like that and plans on letting him fill out the Publisher Clearing House
Sweepstakes now that he's so lucky.
Phillip plans on spending his prize money on toys and lollipops, despite
his father's suggestion of using it on school clothes.
Phillip is the son of Brian and Imelda Williams.
Red Cross offering lifeguard training
PECOS, July 27, 2000 - The American Red Cross of Southwest Texas is offering
certified lifeguard training from Friday, July 28 though Sunday, July 30.
The minimum age to participate is 15. All participants needs to be able
to swim continouously for 500 yards using front crawl, breast stroke and
side stroke, as well as treading water using legs only for two minutes.
