Machuca gets recognition awards

Erik Machuca was chosen as one of the students to receive recognition in the previous release of the Dean's List. During his first year of college he also received three other awards, including Who's Who Among American Junior College Students, Cum Laude and Outstanding Achievement in College Reading.

The Cum Laude award is awarded to students who make no grade lower than a B and who take more than 12 college semester hours.

Who's Who Among American Junior College Student's is awarded to students who excel in their academics and who also participate in school activities.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is awarded to students who do well in a certain class and are recognized by the teachers of that class. Erik was recognized by Reading Department Chair Tammy Morris and awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award in College Reading.

The last award, the Dean's List, is awarded to students who are selected by faculty members of the school to represent them because of great academic achievements.

Machuca plans to attend UTPB in the 2001 Fall semester, but doesn't rule out attending Texas Tech. He plans on graduating Odessa College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration and then transfer his credits to a senior institution and receive a Bachelor Degree in Financing.

His parents are Gregg and Araceli Vickrey of Odessa and sister Brittni of Odessa, uncle and aunt Jerry and Dorinda Millan of Pecos and cousin Isabella Millan of Pecos.
