Golden Girl Nominee
Michelle Romo
Michelle Romo is the 17 year old daughter of Victor and Alma Romo.
She is sponsored by Dr. D. L. Thomas at Pecos Chiropractic Clinic.
Miss Romo has been a cheerleader for three years and is also a member
of the P.H.S. Track team.
She enjoys horseback riding, dancing, hanging out with her friends and
talking on the phone.
"I plan to pursue a career in the medical field after college."
Underwood, Laurence tell of wedding plans
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Underwood of Wink, announce the engagement and approaching
marriage of their daughter, April Donnell Underwood, to Haughton Dean Laurence.
Laurence is the son of Pam Laurence and Paul and Vicki Laurence of Pecos.
The couple will marry at 10 a.m., July 4, at the West of the Pecos Museum.
Friends are invited to attend.
H.D. is currently serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, where the couple
will reside.
Ryan named to national list
Christopher Lee Ryan, 18-year-old son, of Lee and Wanda Ryan of Barstow
has been named to the "National Dean's List" honoring America's Outstanding
College Students for 1999-2000.
Ryan is the grandson of Sidney J. and Ava Williams, formerly of Pecos,
and Ronnie Ryan of Barstow.
Ryan's biography will be featured in the 23rd Annual Edition.
The National Dean's List is the largest, most prestigious publication in
the country recognizing gifted students selected by their Deans, comparable
faculty members or other educational organizations.
Ryan will also automatically be eligible to compete for a $1,000 scholarship
to be awarded this year. Only ½ of one percent of our nation's college
students receive this award.
In addition to the Dean's List, Ryan was also recognized by Odessa College's
"Cum Laude" award. This achievement recognizes superior academic achievement
at Odessa College. To be eligible for this honor a student must be enrolled
in 12 ore more semester hours in a single semester and receive no grade
less than a "B."
Ryan plans to transfer to Texas Tech next year with plans to major in
Business Administration. His goals also include becoming a Certified Public
Accountant.
Orona named to All-Stars in Midland
J.R. Orona, formerly from Pecos, was named to the Western Little League
All-Stars in Midland.
He is the son of Fred and Blaza Orona of Midland.
Grandparents are Tomasa Orona and the late Jose T. Orona of Pecos.
