Golden Girl Nominee

Nicole Payne

Nicole Payne is the 17 year old daughter of Larry and Julie Payne.

She is sponsored by All-State Insurance Agent Donna Johnson, Rubio's Plumbing, and City Cleaners.

Miss Payne is a member of the National Honor Society, a Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Foundation Ambassador, has recieved the United States Cheerleader Achievement Award, is a P.H.S. Spanish Club member, is a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students, is a member of the Pecos Youth Advisory Commission, a Distributive Education Clubs of America State Finalist, a member of the P.H.S. Mariachi Band, a Santa Rosa Folklorico Dancer and a former member of the G-Force Gymnastics team.

She is the Student Body President, a Mighty Eagle Band Flagline Captain and Lieutenant for two years, a Hoop Shoot State Finalist, varsity cheerleader, has recieved the National Leadership Merit Award, was the Homecoming Court Junior Duchess, is in varsity basket ball,varsity track, varsity softball, and attended the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session.

She enjoys singing, aerobics, dancing, playing her flute, traveling with her family, playing the piano, reading poetry, gymnastics and watching her favorite movie...Gone With the Wind.

"Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Savior and it is my number one priority to serve Him. I believe I am a well-rounded person and I am very active but God is the one who gives me strength to pursue my goals."

Williams, Mathis announce July wedding

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Williams, of Pecos, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lori Yvette Williams, to Claude Mathis.

Mathis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Patterson of Austin.

The bride to be is a 1992 graduate of Pecos High School and a 1996 graduate of Southwest Texas State University. She is currently employed as head basketball coach at Stony Point High School in Round Rock.

The future groom is a 1993 graduate of Bartlett High School and a 1997 graduate of Southwest Texas State University. He is a defensive coordinator at Austin Anderson in Austin.

The couple plan to wed at 7 p.m., July 8, in Austin and will make their home in Round Rock, following the ceremony.

Workman named to Dean's List

Lindley Workman has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll of Scholars at the University of Texas for the Spring 2000 semester.

Only students who have earned a 3.5 grade point average on a course load of 12 or more hours during the past semester earn the distinction of the Dean's Honor Roll.

Workman is the daughter of Jerry and Emma Workman of Pecos.

Band students to appear in parade

All Pecos High School Band students need to come to the Band Hall on Monday, July 3, at 2:30 p.m., to pick up music and rehearse for the parade set for July 5.

All band members, incoming freshmen included, are expected to meet at 9 a.m., on July 5, at the Security State Bank.

Any other Band students, grade 7 and 8 are invited to join.
