Scholarship committee meeting set
Earl Bell Scholarship Fund, Inc. will have their annual meeting convention
and scholarship presentation on Saturday, June 3 at the Pecos Community
Center.
A meeting will be held at 10 a.m. for members only; an awards recognition
is scheduled for 2 p.m. and a luncheon will be held following that with
the public invited to attend, both the awards ceremony and the covered
dish luncheon.
Marquez makes Cum Laude Honor Roll
Laura Lee Marquez, a 1998 graduate of Pecos High School currently attending
Odessa College in the field of Respiratory Care made the Cum Laude Honor
Roll.
Marquez was accepted into the program the beginning of the Fall semester
of 1999. In order to receive such an honor the student must be enrolled
full-time with 12 hours or more and make a grade no lower than a "B" in
all classes they are currently enrolled in.
Marquez was enrolled in 14 hours receiving "A's" and "B's" in all her
classes. She was taking Cardiopulmonary Pathophysiology, Fundamentals of
Respiratory Care II, Respiratory Pharmacology, Clinical Practice II, and
Intro to Computer Systems this past Spring semester.
Marquez is enrolled for the summer sessions I and II at Odessa College
which begin May 30. She will be a full-time student in the summer enrolled
with 10 hours each semester.
At the end of the summer sessions Marquez will receive her certificate
of completion and will be eligible to take her Certified Respiratory Therapist
(CRT) Test in November.
Her anticipated graduation will be May of 2001 with an Associate in
Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.).
Marquez is the daughter of Mickey and Jane Marquez and granddaughter
of Frances "Kika" Marquez all of Pecos.
Pecosites make Dean's List
Four Pecos area students attending Angelo State University in San Angelo,
are listed on the Dean's List for the Spring semester at the University.
Those listed include: Penny Anne Armstrong, a Business major; Nancy
Muniz, a Spanish major; Veronica D. Munoz, a Pre-veterinary major and Christy
Lea Taylor, an Early Childhood major, all from Pecos.
To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must be enrolled as a
full time student and have at least a 3.25 grade point average.
Students receive degrees
Four Pecos residents were among 205 Odessa College candidates for graduation
during spring commencement held May 12.
The candidates were: Carol Lee Clark with an associate in arts degree
with a major in business administration; Gabriel P. Matta, associate in
applied science in nursing; Victorio O. Prieto, associate in applied science
in law enforcement/criminal justice; and Louis Joseph Villalobos, associate
in applied science in respiratory therapy.
