Students get awards at art festival
PECOS, May 25, 2000 - Several students received awards and ribbons during
the 13th Annual Student Art Festival at a reception held at
the West of the Pecos Museum recently.
The event is co-sponsored yearly by the Friends of the Museum and the
art work is displayed at the museum.
Friends of the Museum member Laura Teal welcomed the group and introduced
the guest speaker for the evening, Carolyn Rankin.
Members of Friends of the Museum presented the awards to the students
in grades first through high school.
First place winners were Brittany Quintana in the 1st-2nd
grade division; Joseph Ontiveros in the 3rd-4th grade
division; Jamie Gallego, in the 5th-6th grade division
and Keith Baeza in the 7th-8th grade division.
Alvaro Beltran placed second in the 1st-2nd grade
division; Christina Delgado in the 3rd-4th grade;
Randy Lee Galindo, 5th-6th grade and Urban Baeza
in the 7th-8th grade division.
Third place winners were Brianna Rodriguez, in the 1st-2nd
grade division; Rodney Fuentes, 3rd-4th grade; Marie
Keeper, 5th-6th grade and Michael Dominguez in the
7th-8th grade division.
Mentions were given to Angela Fleanor, Monica Garcia, Luis Ortega and
Robert Vasquez.
Honorable Mentions went to Neigel Lozano, Jonathan Aguilar, Shaun Baeza
and Desiree Contreras.
Also, receiving Honorable Mentions were Veronica Rodriguez, Jamie Mena,
Amber Cook and Michael Rodriguez.
Best of Show in the 1st-4th Grade Division went
to Joseph Ontiveros and Keith Baeza.
Volleyball camps offered
PECOS, May 25, 2000 - The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is offering
three volleyball camp sessions this summer.
Volleyball coach Steve Aicinena will conduct a session from 9 a.m. until
noon, July 17-21 for players entering grades seven and eight ($100); and
from 1-5 p.m., the same dates for players entering grades nine and 10 ($125).
The third session will be offered from 1-5 p.m., July 24-28.
All courses will be offered in the UT Permian Basin Gymnasium.

San Roman to graduate from Zapata High
PECOS, May 25, 2000 - Sarah Ann San Roman, daughter of Richard and Sylvia
San Roman, formerly of Pecos, will be graduating from Zapata High School
in El Paso, on May 26.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and will graduate under
the Distinguished Achievement Program.
She has been accepted and plans to attend the University of Texas at
Austin.
Grandparents are Gilbert and Ana Gomez of Pecos.
