Little girls needed for pageant

Applications are being accepted for this year's Little Miss Cantaloupe Pageant to be held in conjunction with the Golden Girl Revue.

Little girls exiting kindergarten or first grade are welcome to participate.

Entry fee is $25.

Arocha, Contreras tell of wedding plans in Odessa

Eloisa Esparza and Richard Arocha, of Odessa, are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Veronica Arocha to Javier A. Contreras, both of Odessa.

The wedding is scheduled for May 6, at St. Elizabeth Ann Setan Catholic Church in Odessa with the Rev. Mark Woodruff officiating.

The bride-elect is a 1989 graduate of Odessa High School and recently completed her nursing degree from Odessa College. She is a registered nurse and is employed by Texas Tech OB/GYN Clinic in Odessa.

The future groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Contreras of Pecos. He is a 1985 graduate of Pecos High School and attended Odessa College and UTPB.

He is a registered CAT Scan Technologist and is the CT Coordinator at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

After a brief honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico, the couple will reside in Odessa.

Herrera named Sailor of Day

Eloy M. Herrera, of Pecos, was recently named "Sailor of the Day," in the U.S. Navy, while on board the USS John C. Stennis.

He is in the engineering/A-Division/Steam Catapult Shop.

"I am responsible for catapult maintenance and operation of the ship's four steam catapults and associated control air systems," said Herrera.

His favorite movie is, "The Devil's Advocate" and he enjoys reading and drawing.

He states that the reason he joined the Navy, was for the travel and education.

Herrera is the son of Eloy and Mary Ann Herrera of Pecos.
