Richard "Calo" Gutierrez

Richard "Calo" Gutierrez, 87, of Pecos died at his residence August 26, 2003.

Gutierrez was born on November 5, 1915 in Pecos and was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a lifelong resident of Pecos, a Catholic and baker/owner of Dicks Sweet Shop.

Services will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 29, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church at 2 p.m. with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating, burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A rosary is scheduled for today, August 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Survivors include his wife Irma M. Gutierrez of Pecos, three sons, Richard Anthony Gutierrez and Roger Gutierrez both of Pecos, John Gutierrez of Austin, a stepdaughter Teressa LongGale of Kingsville, Texas, one sister Gregoria Morales of Pecos and one grandchild.

Maria Hernandez

Maria Zaragosa Hernandez, 43, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, in Pecos.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 14, 1959, in Saragosa, was a homemaker, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Hernandez was preceded in death by one brother, Julio Zaragosa, Jr.

Survivors include one son, Nicholas Hernandez of Big Spring; one daughter, Jennifer Hernandez of Big Spring; one brother, Ruben Zaragosa of Pecos and four sisters, Felipa "Neri" Gamboa of Odessa, Juana Carrillo, Rosa Zaragosa and Elfida Zuniga of Pecos.

Gregorio Rayos Jr.

Gregorio Castro Rayos, Jr., 34, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Martinez Funeral Home in Odessa with Rev. Eloy Garcia officiating.

He was born Oct. 14, 1968, in Pecos, lived in Odessa and was previously from Pecos.

Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Rayos of Odessa; his parents, Gregorio Lopez Rayos Sr. and Otilia Castro Rayos of Pecos; two sons, Gregorio Rayos III and Justice Rayos of Odessa; one daughter, Krystal Faith Rayos of Odessa; one brother, Carlos Rayos of Pecos; four sisters, Betty Lopez, Elizabeth Vela, Paula Ortiz and Celia Salas of Pecos.

Selestina De La Rosa

Selestina De La Rosa, 71, of Saragosa, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Home Hospice of Odessa.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Saragosa with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial was in the Saragosa Cemetery.

She was born April 6, 1932, in Saragosa, was a longtime resident, a housewife and a Catholic.

Survivors include one brother, Juan Contreras of Saragosa and numerous nieces and nephews.

Regino Vasquez

Regino Vasquez, 64, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel in Pecos.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church.

Following Mass services, Vasquez will be taken to Del Carmen Funeral Home in El Paso with visitation and a rosary to be held between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24 and Mass scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 25, at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Clint, was a longtime Pecos resident, a retired carpenter and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Elisa Winfrey of Pecos; one son, Manuel Vasquez of El Paso; one daughter, Anita Vasquez of Oklahoma; one brother, Ricardo Vasquez of El Paso; two sisters, Elisa V. Payen and Ester V. Morales of El Paso and four grandchildren.

Sandra Garcia

Sandra Ann Garcia, 33, of Balmorhea, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in Midland.

Services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Church of Christ in Balmorhea with Doug Maynard officiating. Burial was in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 3, 1969, in Pecos, was devoted to the Word of God and was her dad's personal accountant.

Garcia was preceded in death by her grandfather, Maximo Villarreal.

Survivors include her parents, Tommy and Gloria Garcia of Balmorhea; one brother, Tommy Garcia Jr.; three sisters, Mary Rodriguez, Cherry and Cathy Garcia of Balmorhea; her grandparents, Timoteo and Cinderella Garcia of Balmorhea and Estella Villarreal of Marfa; one nephew; two nieces; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Dora Hayter

Dora Frances Alma Hagelstein Hayter, 78, of Fort Stockton, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in Fort Stockton.

Services were held at 4:30 p.m., today, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jim Miles officiating and assisted by Ann Hurt. Burial was in East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton.

Hayter was born Nov. 18, 1924, in San Angelo, was a retired math teacher and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hayter, Jr. on Jan. 11, 1977.

Survivors include one son, Bob Hayter of Fort Stockton; one daughter, Mary Lynna Page of El Paso; one sister, Meta Simmons of Richmond, Calif.; three grandsons; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

Dr. Robert E. Miles, 84, of Pecos, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, in Fort Stockton.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Pecos with Rev. Dr. James R. Miles and Rev. Matthew C. Miles officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fort Davis.

He was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Fort Davis, was in the United States Navy and served in World War II, was a retired dentist and a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Miles of Pecos; one son, Dr. James Miles of Fort Stockton; one daughter, Ruth Miles Biller of Lacey Springs, Ala.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church in Pecos.

Michael G. Pankey, 54, of Duncan, Okla., died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan with burial in Duncan Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 24, 1949, in Duncan, Okla., was self-employed in the oil industry, was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pecos and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his father, Franklin E. Pankey of Duncan, Okla.; one sister, Katrina Craddick of Hamilton, Tx.; one nephew; one niece; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mari Cruz O. Sigala, a newborn, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

She was born Aug. 13, 2003, in Pecos and was a Catholic.

Victor "Moti" Prieto, 44, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Flores officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 19, 1958, in Pecos, was a lifelong Pecos resident, a laborer and a Catholic.

Prieto was preceded in death by his father, Tito Prieto and one brother, Chano Prieto.

Survivors include his mother, Vicenta Prieto of Pecos; five sons, Victor Jr. and Vincent Prieto of Pecos, Gabriel, Jacob and Anthony Prieto of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Juan and Jesse Prieto of Pecos, Manuel Prieto of Odessa; one step-son, Robert Reyes of Pecos; three sisters, Erminia Lechuga of Odessa, Frances Campos and Andrea Natividad of Pecos and one grandchild.

Janie "Juana" N. Rodriguez, 59, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, at the First Assembly of God Church with Matt Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

She was born May 15, 1944, in Pecos, was a lifelong Pecos resident and a former correctional officer.

Survivors include one son, Antonio Garcia of Pecos; two brothers, Dulces Rodriguez of Dallas, Frank Rodriguez of Pecos; five sisters, Ethel Miller of Vista, Calif., Tommie Vasquez and Pauline Marmolijo of Lubbock, Mary Garcia of Pecos, Martha Vasquez of San Angelo; one grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Beverly Burton

Beverly "Boots" Odom Burton, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, after a long battle with cancer.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. today, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, with Rev. Susan Barnes officiating.

A committal service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the East Hill Cemetery with Rev. Sarah Garnett officiating.

She was born in El Paso, graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Inter American Affairs, moved to Austin in 1989 with her husband and daughter when her husband retired from GMAC after 39 years.

Survivors include her husband, John Burton; three daughters, Blaine Stacy of Houston, Amy Stillwell of Marietta, Ga., Ann Burton of Austin; one son, John Garland Burton of Chino Hills, Calif.; two granddaughters and three grandsons.

Cipriano Dominguez

Cipriano D. Dominguez Sr., 87, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003.

Graveside services and burial was in Fort Sam National Cemetery with full military honors.

He was born July 11, 1916, in Redford, enlisted in the United States Army in 1941, was assigned to Troop B of the 12th Calvary and stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso. In June of 1943, he was sent to the Pacific to go fight in World War II, spent most of his two years overseas in and around the Philipines and after the war worked at Pyote Air Force Base until it closed in 1954. He transferred from Pyote AFB to Kelly AFB in San Antonio, in August of 1954, where he worked until his retirement in July 1976. He then moved to Barstow where he worked for Ward County until 1991 when he moved to his present home in Lytle, Tx.

Survivors include his wife, Margarita Quiroz Dominguez; two sons, Cipriano Dominguez Jr. of Odessa, Salvador Dominguez of Lytle; two daughters, Rosa Ortega of Houston, Rosie Navarette of Lytle; three sisters, Paula Gonzales, Hope Galvan and Mary Jane Villanueva; five brothers, Esequiel, Ruben, Robert, Isidro and Oscar Dominguez; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Cypriano E. Gomez

Cypriano "Piano" E. Gomez, 66, of Pecos, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., today, Aug. 12, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Pecos, was retired, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Gomez was preceded in death by his father, Edward Gomez Sr.; one brother, Edward Gomez, Jr.; two sisters, Candida Tarin and Felicita Huertas.

Survivors include his wife, Aurelia Gomez of Pecos; his mother, Maria Gomez of Pecos; three sons, Jaime Gomez of Pecos, Javier and Cypriano Gomez Jr. of Calif., Tony Lujan of Odessa; one daughter, Corina Dhanji of Ft. Ermine E. Hourigan

Ermine E. Hourigan, 95, left us on August 8. Born in Galesburg, Illinois on September 8, 1907, this pioneer lady came to West Texas in a covered wagon. The child of Charles and Clara Peck, the family settled in Balmorhea, Texas.

She survived two husbands; Raymond McKay of Ft. Stockton, Texas, grandson of pioneer Annie Riggs and Stephen L. Hourigan of El Paso, Texas, a long-time teacher at Bowie High School. She taught at St. Joseph's Catholic School for many years and was a faithful parishioner of St. Raphael's Catholic Church. She contributed many historical articles and memoirs to local papers and museums.

She is survived by sons; Thomas V. McKay (Leticia), Vernon Ray McKay (Josephine), Stephn R. Hourigan (Jackie), Timothy J. Hourigan (Donna), and daughters; Claire L. Sutton (James), Anne M. Pilgrim (John) and predeceased by eldest son, William F. McKay. She has numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00-7:00 p.m. and scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 Caroline Dr. on Tuesday, August 12. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Dr. Graveside services immediately following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Melchor Chavez

Melchor Franco Chavez, 76, of Hobbs, N.M., died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in Hobbs N.M.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today, at St. Helena Catholic Church in Hobbs, with Father Dennis Fountain officiating with burial in Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

He was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico, moved to Hobbs in 1981, from Pecos, was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church and a retired farm hand.

Chavez was preceded in death by his mother, Silveria Franco and his wife, Margarita Fuentes Chavez in 1987.

Survivors include two sons, Victor and Adolfo Chavez of Hobbs; five daughters, Evangelina Lujan of Odessa, Lourdes Mata and Lorena Chavez Roman of Hobbs, Socorro Martinez of Pecos, Elva Jaquez of Austin; one brother, Pablo Franco of Jal, N.M.; one sister, Cruz Juarez of Hobbs; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janis Kay Fitzpatrick

Janis Kay Fitzpatrick, 33, of Pecos passed away Friday, August 8, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

She was born on November 22, 1969, in Odessa and married Danny Fitzpatrick on June 9, 1990 in Odessa. She was a homemaker and a committed Christian. She was member of the First Baptist Church in Pecos.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Muncy and brother Bobby Muncy.

She is survived by her husband Danny of Pecos, two daughters Jordan and Bethany Fitzpatrick both of Pecos, father Bob Muncy of Odessa, brother Tommy Muncy and wife Cindy of Odessa.

The family met with friends for a visitation from 7 p.m. till 9 p.m., on Sunday, August 10 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today, Monday, August 11, 2003 at Belmont Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Clayton and Pastor Bryan Saffle officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Cal Farley Boys Ranch in Tascosa, Texas.

Ermila Mongarro

Ermila Mongarro, 83, of Pecos died Saturday, August 9, at the Odessa Regency, in Odessa, Texas.

Mongarro was born on December 24, 1919 in Lajitas, Texas. She was a homemaker, a catholic and a lifetime resident of Pecos.

Services were held this morning, August 11, at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with burial following at Greenwood Cemetery. A rosary was held at 7:30 p.m., yesterday, August 10 at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.

She was proceded in death by two daughters Maria Elena Sarabia and Martha Fuentes.

Survivors include her husband Francisco Maynez, three sons, Manuel Maynez of Pecos, and Melchor and Mario Maynez both of Odessa, one brother Pablo Mongarro from Eagle Pass, Texas, 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Peaceful Garden Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Billie Fay Hughes died June 27, 2003 in Tennessee.

A memorial service was held at the Osborn Family Reunion at Lake Leon, Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003. About 70 family members were in attendance.

She was born May 6, 1927, in Aledo, Tx.

Survivors include five brothers, Charlie and Jim Osborn of Pecos, Jack Osborn of Toyah, Dan Osborn of Huntsville and Jay Walker of Azle.

Manuel Avila, 82, of Barstow, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

He was born June 17, 1921, in Barstow, was a World War II Veteran, who served in the U.S. Army, a laborer, a lifelong Barstow resident and a Catholic.

Services for Manuel Avila, 82, of Barstow, died today, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Marguerite Dubbs

Margeurite Mary Dubbs, 82, of Pecos, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Abilene, was a longtime Pecos resident, a retired TDH secretary and housewife and a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Paul, Timothy and Michael Dubbs; one daughter, Virginia Russell and nine grandchildren.

Norma Tudor

Norma "Jeannene" Tudor, 69, of Hatch, N.M., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, after a 35 year battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Monahans Memorial Cemetery in Monahans.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, at the Adams Street Church of Christ in Hatch, N.M.

Tudor was born Aug. 6, 1933, in Joinerville, was a faithful Christian, taught children's Sunday school class and attended, lived in Monahans and Pecos, until 1985 when they moved to Hatch, N.M. and attended Adams St. Church of Christ in Hatch, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her first three children, Johnny, Cynthia, and Stephen in an accident on Aug. 19, 1960 in Pecos; by one sister and one brother.

Survivors include her husband, Ennis Tudor of Hatch; four daughters, Jana Cullers, Charla Bell, Lisa Wayne and Isela Carrasco; four sons, Bobby Estes, Eddie Wayne, Ruben Carrasco, Alvaro Pernalez; four sisters, Berta Allen, Jo Weathers, Helen Hendrix, LaVonda Preuit; one brother, Jimmy Franklin and 18 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Adams Street Church of Christ Youth, P.O. Box 795, Hatch, N.M. 87937, or an organization of your choice.

Rosa Rodriguez

Rosa N. Rodriguez, 87, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at her residence.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 7, 1915, in Toyahvale, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Rodriguez was preceded in death by her husband Francisco "Chico" Rodriguez and one son, Epifanio "Red" Rodriguez.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Rodriguez, Jr. of Pecos, Dulce Rodriguez of Farmers Branch; six daughters, Ethel Miller of Vista, Calif., Janie Rodriguez of Pecos, Tommie Vasquez of Lubbock, Pauline Marmolejo of Lubbock, Mary Garcia of Pecos, Martha Vasquez of San Angelo; three sisters, Rita Fuentez of Odessa, Katy Lara of Odessa, Rufina Rayos of Pecos; two brothers, Pete Natividad of El Paso, Benito Natividad of Carrolton, Tx.; 27 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
