Maxine Oglesby

Maxine Oglesby, 77, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Ft. Charles McIntyre and Ernie Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Pine Bluff, Ark., had lived in Pecos since 1945, was a homemaker and a member of the Episcopal church.

Mrs. Oglesby was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Oglesby Evans in 1999; a son, John Mike Oglesby in 2001 and one nephew, John Robert Oglesby in 1995.

Survivors include her husband, William Robert Oglesby of Pecos; one son, William Henry Oglesby of Pecos; one brother, Jack Lyle of Boston, Mass.; five grandchildren, Blythe Evans of Lubbock, Quay and Mary Taylor Oglesby of Ozona, Will and Matthew Oglesby of Pecos.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or the West of the Pecos Museum.

Lorenzo Flores

Lorenzo Flores, 89, passed away on October 25, from natural causes at the Reeves County Hospital in Pecos, TX.

Flores was born in Colorado City, on August 12, 1914. He was a lifetime resident of Pecos and worked as a mechanic before his retirement.

He is survived by his sons, Mario Flores of Pecos and Ray Flores of El Paso, his daughters, Maria De La Luz Sanders of Lubbock and Frances Mora of San Antonio, 19 grand children and 16 great grandchildren. Flores is also survived by his brothers, Piano Flores of El Paso and Speedy Flores of Pecos, and by his sisters, Rosa Bitolas of El Paso and Alicia Olquin of Midland.

Mass was held at 2 p.m. today, at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial following at the Santa Rosa Cemetery and Father Gustavo Lopez officiating.

Homer Harden

Homer Harden, 53, died at a New Orleans hospital on October 20, 2003. Harden was a resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Born on July 29, 1950 in Los Angeles, CA, Harden was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife Christine, his two sons Tyrell Harden and Ron Harden, both of Lake Charles, LA, his two daughters, Tisha Harden and Tenisha Harden, also both of Lake Charles, LA, his brother, Thomas Harden of Glendale, AZ, his two sisters, Dennise Wilson of Glendale, AZ and Kathy Anderson of Dallas, TX, and 9 grandchildren.

Services were held October 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. James Henderson with a burial that followed at the Eastside Cemetery in Pecos, TX.

Manuela Rodriguez

Manuela Rodriguez, 81, passed away on October 24 of natural causes. Rodriguez was born in Carizzo Chihuahua, Mexico on September 21, 1922. She was a devout Catholic and a lifetime resident of Pecos, TX.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel Rodriguez of Pecos, her sons Benjamin Rodriguez of Odessa, Rogelio Rodriguez of Pecos, Jose Rodriguez of Pecos, Hector Rodriguez of Pecos, Jaime Rodriguez of Pecos and her daughter, Martha Baeza also of Pecos. She is also survived by her four brothers: Angel Tarin of Presidio, Nerio Tarin of Pecos, Jesus Tarin of Pecos and Jose Tarin of Pecos. She was preceded in death by her daughter Bertha Carrasco.

Rosary services will be at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. on October 27. Mass will be held at the Santa Rosa Church at 10:00 a.m., on October 28 with burial following at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos.

Etta Louise Sullivan

Etta Louise Sullivan went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 25, 2003, at the great age of 86.

Survivors: son, Johnny and wife Jane of Holdenville, OK; and daughter, Gay Rarick and husband John of Odessa, TX. Grandchildren include, Tom Riley of Anchorage, AK; Jim Riley of Pecos, TX; Jerry Riley of Phoenix, AZ; Loretta Riley of Irving, TX; Danny Sullivan of Marathon, FL; Jody Tugham of Amarillo, TX; Wendy Pingleton of Holdenville, OK; Bo Sullivan of Fort Worth, TX; Angela Darling of Chiago, IL and Amy Sullivan of Roanoke, TX. She is also survived by her 15 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, and her sisters, including Elva Mitchell of St. Helens, OR and Lorene Henslee of Orla City, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and son, Bobby.

She was a willing volunteer and very active in her church and the community she loved. She was a Christian and member of the First Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Modern Study Club, Hospital Auxillary, and the Business and Professional Women's Club.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. Internment will be at 4:00 p.m. the same day at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, TX. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 28 from 7-9 p.m. at Pecos Funeral Home.

Jose Aguilar Tersero

Jose Aguilar Tersero, 97, passed away on October 25 at the Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Aguilar was born on December 15, 1905 in Adoves, he worked as a ranch hand before his passing. Services will be held on October 28, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at the Greenwood Cemetery. Aguilar was a devout Jehovah Witness.

He is survived by his daughter Lydia Matta of Pecos, six granddaughters and three grandsons, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

William Talley

William Duff Talley, 78, died Monday, October 20, 2003 in an Alpine area hospital.

Visitation will be held at Geesling Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. at the University Baptist Church with pastor David Pate officiating, with burial following in the Elm Grove Cemetery.

Talley was born on August 23, 1925 in Shep to Alva and Zelma Talley. After graduating from high school, Talley enlisted in the United States Army. He served during WW II and was part of the campaign in central Europe. During his time in the service, Talley aquired the status of sharpshooter with the M-1 rifle. He was awarded the Silver Star, the WW II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal. On August 6, 1948 Talley married Anna Miller.

He was a former partner in the Talley-Reed Insurance Company in Alpine, a resident of Alpine for 37 years and a member of the University Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Ann Talley of Alpine; his son, Michael Duff Talley; his sister, Crystel Walker of Houston; his two brothers, Carl Raymond Talley of Shep and Carlos Rueben Talley of Abilene and two grandsons.

Ruth Clark

Ruth Louise Clark, 85, died Saturday, October 18, 2003 in Graham. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend James C. Hill, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Cross Plains Cemetery in Cross Plains with Reverend Kevin Henson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Mrs. Clark was born September 24, 1918 in Cross Plains to Chess Wilburn and Minnie Viola (Atwood) Barr. She married Clois Q. Clark October 25, 1936 in Cross Plains. Clark was a longtime resident of Pecos before moving to Graham in 1996. She was a Homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Clark was preceded in death by an infant daughter Jo Ann Clark. Survivors include; husband of 66 years, Clois Q. Clark of Graham; two daughters, Vicki Ferrell of Houston and Kaye Turner of Graham; one sister, Jean Petty of Abilene; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Jordan Lieou, Kayla Henson, and Trey Stuart.

The Family will be at Morrison Funeral Home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Conita Lester

Conita Lester, 71, of Terrell, died Saturday, Oct. 18, at a Waco Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with burial in Milford Cemetery.

She was born May 10, 1932, grew up in Whitney and the Milford area, was a graduate of Milford High School, lived in various locations most recent being Terrell and back in Whitney.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Lester of Terrell; two sons, Steve Jones of Whitney, Darrell Jenkins of Shreveport, La.; two daughters, Julianne Mitchell of Dallas, Carolyn Overton of Waxahachie; two brothers, Ron Montgomery of Whitney, Jessie Ramon of Garland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nephews and two nieces.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 676, Hillsboro, Tx. 76645.

Ruben Guzman

Ruben Guzman, 50, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 in Amarillo.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for noon, Saturday, Oct. 18, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Florez officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born May 25, 1953, in Mexico, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a roustabout employee and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Susana M. Guzman of Pecos; his mother, Amelia Guzman of Pecos; one son, Ruben Guzman, Jr. of Odessa; three step-sons, Larry, Joe and Cesar Marquez of Amarillo; four daughters, Diana, Becky and Jessica Guzman of Odessa, Maricella Guzman of Dallas; six brothers, Jesus, Juan, Armando and Julian Guzman of Pecos, Lorenzo Guzman of Hobbs, Cruz Guzman of Odessa; two sisters, Marina Venegas of Pecos and Socorro Lopez of Odessa.

Maria Hernandez

Maria Hernandez, 62, of Andrews, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, in Odessa.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, in Filadelfia Assembly of God with Rev. Samuel Emiliano and Rev. Teodulo Garcia officiating. Burial was in Andrews North Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 4, 1940, in Miguel Auza, Zacatecos, Mexico, lived in Andrews for the past 25 years, was a homemaker and a member of Filadelfia Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband, Angel Hernandez of Andrews; four daughters, Gregoria Hernandez of La Joya, Tx., Rosa E. Hernandez of Andrews, Maria A. Hubert of Pecos, Isabel C. Hernandez of Mexico; one son, Angel Saul Hernandez of Tucson, Ariz.; her parents, Martin and Simona Garcia of Hidalgo, Tx.; six brothers, Teodulo, Valentin and Isidro Garcia of Andrews, Jose E. and Juan Garcia of Mexico, Efrain Garcia of Hidalgo; three sisters, Maria Garcia and Manuela Aguirre of Andrews, Maria Del Socorro Garcia of Weslaco, Tx.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Karen White

Karen White, 46, of Colorado City and formerly of Stanton, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, in the Colorado High School Auditorium with Rev. Monte Kreis officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemtery.

She was born Aug. 19, 1957, in Kermit, had been a resident of Colorado City for the past 1 1/2 years, was a graduate of Wink High School, received her Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech and her masters degree from Sul Ross and had been a teacher in several schools in West Texas. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Colorado City.

Survivors include her husband, Jim White of Colorado City; two sons, Clay White of Lubbock, Clint White of Colorado City; one daughter, Clansy White of Colorado City; her parents, Milton and Mildred Howard of Colorado City; two sisters, Carol Morton of Stockton, Mo., Beth Brannan of Nacogdoches; one brother, Glenn Howard of Victoria.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Philip Michael Ferguson

Philip Michael Ferguson died at his residence in Stephenville on Saturday, October 4, 2003.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the West End Cemetery in Stephenville.

Ferguson was born on October 2, 1946 in Stephenville. He graduated from Stephenville High School in 1961 and married Edwina Keller on August 23, 1969. Ferguson worked in the Town of Pecos from 1972 to 1982 as a tax assessor collector, and then for the Birdwell ISD from 1988 until 1999 as an assessor collector. He moved back to Stephenville in 1999. He was a member of the church of Christ and several Texas tax assessor organizations.

He is survived by his wife Edwina, his daughter Rebecca Ferguson of Granbury, his son Michael Ferguson of Fort Worth, his brother Jim Randal of Dallas, four nephews and four nieces.

Glenda Still

Glenda Gale Still, 50, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, in Abilene.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, in Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating.

She was born on June 30, 1953, in Dallas, was a U.S. Navy veteran and moved from California to Abilene in 1986. She was an insurance clerk for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Still was preceded in death by her mother, Betty in 1987.

Survivors included her father and step-mother, Bill and Annabel Still of Balmorhea; three sisters, Brenda Still and Terry Cardenas of Abilene and Lisa Robinson of Canyon.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the donor's charity of choice.

Maria Muniz Cabezuela

Maria Muniz Cabezuela, 67, died Monday, September 29, 2003 in an Odessa area hospital.

Rosary was held on September 29 at 8 p.m. at the Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Presidio. Funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 30 at 10 a.m. at the church with Father Lazaro Gonzales Trejo officiating. Burial followed in the Desert Hills Cemetery, with funeral services provided by the Memorial Funeral Home of Marfa.

Mrs. Cabezuela was born on March 6, 1936 in San Antonio del Bravo to Marcos and Mauricia Fierro Muniz. Maria was wed to Jose Cabezuela on August 30, 1952. She had been a resident of Presidio for the past 47 years. She was a member of the Catholic Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Jose; two daughters, Alicia Cabezuela and Jessie Baeza; four sons, Jose Luis, Manuel, Raul and Juan Roberto Cabezuela; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Fernando Orona, Sr.

Fernando "Chando" Orona, Sr., 70, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at Reeves County Hospital. A rosary was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Peaceful Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, with mass at 2 p.m. today, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Peaceful Gardens Funeral Home.

Orona was born on May 30, 1933 in Casa Piedra and was a lifetime resident of Pecos. He was a retired oilfield worker and a Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Fernando "Chapo" Orona, Jr., of Pecos; one stepson, Frank Perea of Pecos; six stepdaughters, Mary Perea and Teresa Rodriguez of Pecos; Lucia Pallanez and Tuly Vasquez of Midland, Angela Perea of Shafter and Carmen Cross of Tampa, Fla.; six brothers Manuel Orona of Stockton, Ca., Jimmy Orona, Leondro Orona and Jesus Orona of Pecos; Pancho Orona of Odessa and Casimiro Orona of Huntsville, Tex.; two sisters, Maria Licon of Odessa and Maria Orona of Littlefield; 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Frank Williams

Frank Williams, 79, died on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at Reeves County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Terry officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Williams was born on July 24, 1924 in Wharton. He was a retired mechanic a longtime Pecos resident and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Williams of Pecos; four sons, Lawrence (Bubba) and Frank Williams of Pecos, Kenneth Lee Williams of San Antonio, and Terry Williams of Houston; two daughters, Janice Adell Williams of San Antonio and Wilene Williams of Carson City, Texas; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Fernando Orona, Sr.

Fernando "Chando" Orona, Sr., 70, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at Reeves County Hospital. A rosary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Peaceful Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, with mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Peaceful Gardens Funeral Home.

Frank Williams

Services are incomplete for Frank Williams, 79, of Pecos, who died, Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at the Reeves County Hospital.

Don Max Loper

Don Max Loper, 65, of Eula died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at an Abilene hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde with Rev. Bill Alexander and Rev. Henry "Sonny" Burleson officiating. Burial will be in the Dudley Cemetery under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home.

Don was born on April 26, 1938 in Dudley. He attended school at Denton Valley and Eula. He married Jan Burleson June 10, 1961 in Abilene. At the time of his death, he was a superintendent for Price Construction.

He had previously worked for Boysenberry Construction and Border Road Construction. He lived and worked in West Texas, living in Pecos and Balmorhea from 1971 to 1997 when he moved back to the Eula/Dudley community.

He served in the U.S. Marines and was a member of the Methodist church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Truett Loper, and his sister Opal Hitchcock.

Loper is survived by his wife Jan Loper of Eula, four sons, Jerry Don Loper of Keller, James Glen Loper of San Benito, Jeffery Martin Loper of Austin, and Joey Dean Loper of San Benito; one brother, Glen Loper of Denton Valley, and four grandsons.

Balente Machuca

Balente P. Machuca, 86, of Odessa, surrounded by his loving family died at his residence, Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Machuca was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Candelaria, to Balente and Candelaria Prieto Machuca. He was a Christian Catholic and worked in the Billboard Advertising Industry. He united in marriage to Maria Carrasco on July 20, 1940 in Saragosa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Machuca; one daughter, Adeliada Machuca and one brother, Manuel Machuca.

Survivors include five sons: Adan Machuca and wife, Cruz of Pecos, Alberto Machuca of Odessa, Valente Machuca Jr. and wife Dianne of Odessa, Anthony Prieto and wife Christina of Odessa and Richard Machuca of Dallas; six daughters, Senida Lopez and husband Manuel, Cecilia Mendes and husband Valente, Celia Soto and husband Jose, Jeannette Chavez, Caroline Vega and husband Oscar and, Guillermina Pando and husband Adolfo all from Odessa; one brother Carlos Nichols, Sr. and wife Jesus of Pecos; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; three great-great-great grandchildren.

We, the family are eternally grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ for allowing us these beautiful years with a wonderful man, we call father and grandfather. In addition, we would like to express our utmost sincere gratitude to the staff of Home Hospice and if any special contributions would like to be made please, to Home Hospice of Odessa.

Frank Salcido

Frank Salcido, 57, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at his residence. A rosary is schedule for 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel, and a funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church under the direction of Father Ben Flores, with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1946 in Pecos and was a lifelong resident. He was a retired rig supervisor, a U.S. Army veteran and a Catholic.

Salcido was proceeded in death by two brothers, Ismael Salcido and Sebastian Salcido. Survivors include a son, Francisco Daniel Salcido of Conroe; three daughters, Paula Diana Salcido Torres of Carrollton, Amelia Veronica Howard of Austin and Francesca Antoniette Garcia of Midland; one brother, Felix Salcido, Jr., of Pecos; two sisters, Rachel Natividad and Rosa Cedillo, both of Pecos; nine grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.

Abel Leos

Abel H. Leos, 80, of Pecos, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at his residence.

A rosary was held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Flores officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born July 24, 1923, in Toyah, served in the Army in World War II, was a retired special test assistant at the tire test center, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Abel Leos Jr. of Garland, Ynes Leos of Ivanhoe, Calif., Danny Leos of Pecos; four daughters, Felipa and Rebecca Leos of San Angelo, Mary Alice Hernandez and Norma Ann Dominguez of Pecos; one sister, Elena Dominguez of Pecos; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Raymundo Rede

Raymundo Flores Rede, 57, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Odessa, with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos.

He was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Toyahvale, to father Hermerejildo Rede and mother Agapita Flores, who both preceded him in death.

Elvira R. Herrera

Elvira R. Herrera died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in Arlington, Tx., where funeral services are currently being finalized.

Herrera was born October 3,1933 and was a former Pecos resident and a Catholic. She was preceded in her death by her parents, Francisco Herrera and Estasnalade (Lala) Herrera, her brother, Jese R. Herrera and her sister-in-law, Antonia Botello Herrera. Survivors include her brother, Florencio Herrera of Pecos, and her sister, Maria Herrera Gomez of Casa Grande, AZ.

Abel Leos

Abel H. Leos, 80, of Pecos, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at his residence.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Flores officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born July 24, 1923, in Toyah, served in the Army in World War II, was a retired special test assistant at the tire test center, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Abel Leos Jr. of Garland, Ynes Leos of Ivanhoe, Calif., Danny Leos of Pecos; four daughters, Felipa and Rebecca Leos of San Angelo, Mary Alice Hernandez and Norma Ann Dominguez of Pecos; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Santiago Sais

Santiago Sais, 85, of Pecos, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass was held at 11 a.m., today, Monday, Sept. 22, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born July 24, 1918, in Balmorhea, was retired, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Eloisa Sais of Pecos; three sons, Salvador Sais of Andrews, Alvaro Sais of Ardmore, Okla., Henry Sais of Pecos and 11 grandchildren.

Phyllis Stool

Phyllis Scott Medanich Stool, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Hot Springs (Truth or Consequences) N.M., graduated from Pecos High School in 1936. She graduated from Tarleton in 1938, married Charlie Medanich in 1941, married until his death in 1984. She married Max Stool in 1990, until his death in 2001.

Stool was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, had been active in Cub Scouts, Modern Study Club, Friends of the Museum, Friends of the Library and Reeves County Hospital Auxiliary volunteer.

Survivors include four sons, Chuck Medanich of McLean, Virginia, Scott Medanich of San Angelo, Ted Medanich of Annaca, Venezuela, Roger Medanich of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Archie Scott of Pecos, Paul Scott of San Antonio; one granddaughter; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations or memorials be made to a favorite charity.

Marjorie Wilson

Marjorie Wilson, 67, of Pecos, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, at Fairview Cemetery with J.E. McCormick officiating.

She was born March 25, 1936, in Little Rock, Ark., was a homemaker and had lived in Pecos most of her life.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Gober of Pecos; one daughter, Susan Swinney of Fort Stockton; one brother, James Gover of Moscow Hills, Missouri.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jesse Lopez Duarte, 44, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, in Santa Fe, N.M., following a brief illness.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Francis Cathedral with burial in Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe.

He was born Sept. 9, 1959, in Pecos, to Manuel Duarte and Magdelena Duarte.

Survivors include his wife, Chastity Duarte of Santa Fe; his father, Manuel Duarte; three sons, Terry and Sean Duarte and Manuel Duarte Contreras; daughter, April Duarte and god-daughter, Jessica Delgado; two sisters, Josie Bewley and Ida Little and one grandson.

Maria M. Garcia, 82, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Kittie M. Arnold, 86, of Abilene, died at her residence on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene with Rev. Jeff Jackson officiating.

She was born June 15, 1917, in Sherman, was a homemaker, moved to Abilene from San Angelo five years ago.

Survivors include one son, Paul Arnold of Abilene and two grandsons.

Elizabeth Schaefer

Elizabeth Schaefer, 65, of Victoria, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, after a long battle with ALS.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria with Chaplain Carolyn Cowan officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 14, 1938, in Brownwood, attended school in May, Coleman and Kerrville, graduating from Tivy High School. Her family moved to Pecos, where she met and married her husband of 42 years, Dan W.Schaefer. She retired from Reagan County Elementary as a school librarian.

Survivors include her husband Dan Schaefer of Victoria; one brother Joel Smith of Brownwood; two daughters, Dalissa Brandenburg and Danna Harrison and two granddaughters, all of Victoria.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in her name to ALS Association of South Texas, Golden Crescent CASA, or the local Hospice Chapter.

Frank Salas Hidalgo, 43, of Odessa, formerly of Pecos, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Holy Redeemer Church in Odessa with burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Don Joseph

Don Cooper Joseph, died Aug. 28, 2003, in Flagstaff, Ariz.

He was born Feb. 20, 1942, lived in Pecos for a few years and was employed for 24 years by Mobil Oil Corp.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. and Rachel Joseph.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Joseph; two daughters, Donna Joseph and Gale Burke; one sister, Kay Gilly and four grandsons.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.

W.D. Dinwiddie

W. D. "Jiggs" Dinwiddie, 86, of Jal, N.M., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, in Jal.

Services were held at 10 a.m., today, at the First United Methodist Church in Jal, N.M., with Rev. Gary Eggbert officiating. Burial was in Jal Cooper Cemetery.

He was born July 20, 1917, in Pecos, moved to Jal in 1932, from Barstow. In 1984, he was honored as the New Mexico Cattleman of the Year. He was a past president of the New Mexico Hereford Association, was a co-founder and past president of Fee and Public Land Association. In 1996, he was inducted into the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jal.

Survivors include one son, Billy W. Dinwiddie of Jal, N.M.; two grandchildren, Tommy Dinwiddie and his wife Melanie of Capitain, N.M., Deedra Glass and her husband Ronald Glass of Jal, N.M. and six great-grandchildren.

Mattie Thorp

Mattie L. Thorp, 97, of Mentone, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with Mark Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Kermit Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Burleson, Tx., was a homemaker, married Mac Thorp on Dec. 25, 1923, in Tahoka, was a Baptist and a resident of Mentone for 42 years. She was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include one nephew Billy Hopper of Mentone and numerous nieces and nephews.
