Miguel Martinez

Miguel Nieto Martinez, 88, of Pecos, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Chapel services were held Sunday, Feb. 26, at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born May 8, 1917, in Sheffield and was a longtime Pecos resident.

Survivors include five sons, Mike Martinez Jr. of Pecos, Refugio Martinez of El Paso, Joel Martinez of El Paso, Oscar Martinez of Odessa, Daniel Martinez of California; four daughters, Sally Martinez of El Paso, Dora Ochoa of Odessa, Mary Lou Gamboa of Odessa, Gloria Rodriguez of Carlsbad, N.M.; 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Walter Paschal Jr.

Walter Byron “Red” Paschal, Jr., born Oct. 10, 1926, in Meadow, Tx., son of Walter B. Sr. and Mamie Day Paschal, died at the Pecos Nursing Home on Feb. 23, 2006.

A memorial service was held at the Pecos Funeral Home, on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at 3 p.m.

Red Paschal was a rancher and cowboy preacher. He was saved at a revival at the age of 14. At the age of 16, he left school to work on the ranches and rodeos along the Texas and New Mexico border.

Red married Jackie Colleen Carr, Feb. 4, 1945, shortly before entering military service. He traveled with the Army to Japan as part of the mainland occupation forces. Following an honorable discharge at Fort Sam Houston, in September 1946, Red returned to the ranches and rodeoing.

He worked on ranches across Loving, Reeves, Presidio, Jeff Davis, and Culberson counties in Texas. After a brief stint with the U.S. Border Patrol, in Laredo, Reds ranch work took his family to Colorado Springs, Colo. from 1957-1961. In 1965, Red became self-employed breaking, shoeing, and training horses. It was at that time that his work with Christian ministry began to increase with his ordination as a deacon at North Temple Baptist Church. In 1966, he was licensed to preach, and he attended the Spanish language Mexican Bible Institute, at San Antonio, in 1968.

Red’s work as a horse trainer took him as far away as Nebraska for competitions, and he traveled to Ithaca, New York to train Polo horses. In 1971, Red returned to the rimrocks country to work for the Gulf Coast Real Estate Co., at the 96 Ranch. After 14 years, he bought a home and land in the Lobo Valley, and he concentrated on tending his own herd of cattle.

Red was ordained as a minister and served as the pastor for Primera Iglesia Bautista, in Van Horn, for 10 years. In his retirement, Red returned to Pecos to live nearer to his children.

Red Paschal was preceded in death by his son Douglas “Bud” Paschal of Hinesville, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Colleen Paschal of Pecos; his son, Byron Wayne “Shot” and Kathy Paschal of Pecos; his daughter, Margaret and her husband, Phillip Ryan of Midland; his daughter, Patricia and her husband, Jerry Figures of Georgetown; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Edna Springer of Arlington and Annie Ruth Camp of Brownfield and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity, the West of the Pecos Museum or Primera Iglesia Bautista at Van Horn.

Catalina Garcia

Catalina Garcia, 87, of Pecos, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial at Santa Rosa Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 6, 1919, in El Paso, was a homemaker, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Garcia was preceded in death by both parents, Albino Ortega and Maria R. Ortega.

Survivors include three sons, Arturo Garcia of Midland, Armando Garcia of Pecos, Ernest Garcia of Ventura, Calif.; three daughters, Alicia Guevara of Pecos, Maria Cruzita Garcia of Pecos, Julie Vincent of Austin; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Luis Muniz

Luis T. Muniz, 77, of Saragosa, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Hospice House in Odessa.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial in Saragosa Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Candelaria, was a lifetime Saragosa resident, retired and a Catholic.

Muniz was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Eduvijes Muniz; one brother, Ricardo Muniz and one sister, Ester Mendoza.

Survivors include his wife, Isabel M. Muniz of Saragosa; five sons, Ramon Muniz of Pecos, Manuel Muniz of Saragosa, Jose Luis “Joe” Muniz, Martin Muniz of Odessa; eight daughters, Ayda Nunez of Indio, Calif., Adelaida Burciaga, America Baeza, Ana Paredes, Amavilia Gonzales and Betsy Dominguez of Odessa, Jesusita Mondragon of Balmorhea, Alicia Dominguez of Crane; five brothers, Roman, Ezequiel, Feliciano and Cruz Muniz of Saragosa, Juan Muniz Jr. of Presidio; two sisters, Anatalia Muniz of Saragosa and Paula Fuentes of Hobbs, N.M.; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary Ruth Lindley Boyd

Mary Ruth Lindley Boyd, 99, passed away peacefully in Little Rock, Arkansason the 10th of February following a brief illness. She was one of eight children born to a pioneer East Texas retail and farm family, and lived most of her adult life in El Paso, Texas. She was one of nine children born to Mrs. and Mrs. Jacob Marion Lindley of Sulphur Springs, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles W. Boyd, a retired El Paso banker from a prominent banking and cotton farming family in Pecos and Balmorhea, Texas. Mary Boyd is survived by her son, Dr. Charles Marion Boyd, his wife Anne Ponder Boyd, his former wife Anne Townsend Boyd, two grandsons: David C. Boyd of Little Rock, Michael M. Boyd with his wife Melanie and great-grandchildren, Colin and Lane of Maumelle; and granddaughter Allison Boyd of Denver, Colorado and her daughter Ellie Boyd. In addition she is survived by nephews John Lindley of Dallas, Donald Lindley of Red Oak, Texas, John Orndorff of San Diego, California, and Billy Dan Lindley of Sulphur Springs, Texas; and niece Mary Ann Anglin, of Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Mary Boyd was an active member of the Second Presbyterian Church in El Paso, Texas. She was very well liked by all. She was an energetic homemaker and civic volunteer in El Paso for fifty years before moving to Little Rock to be near her son and his family. She loved her family, and especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. She took up ballroom dancing at the age of 88 and began winning Arthur Murray dance contests nationwide with her dance partners.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday February 14, 11 AM, at the Parkway Village Chapel on Chenal Parkway. Graveside burial service will be in Pecos, TexasFriday, February 17. Memorials may be directed to Baptist Health Hospice, 11900 Col. Glen Rd, Suite 2000, Little Rock, AR, 72210.

Leland Casey

Leland H. Casey, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13, in First United Methodist Church, Commerce with Rev. Lisa Greenwood Walcott officiating and burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Emblem was a member of First United Methodist Church, Dough Rollins Sunday School Class, the American Legion, 320th Bomb Group from World War II and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Casey of Commerce; one daughter, Judy Christensen of Midland; one sister, Bonnie Osborne of Houston; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion Cemetery Association or a charity of their choice.

Travis Lattner

W. Travis Lattner, Jr., 84, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Home Hospice in Odessa.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the First Baptist Church.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1921, to William Travis and Edith Lattner in the family farmhouse in Pleasant Grove. Travis graduated from Thornton High School in 1938, and North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, in 1942 with a major in government. After graduation he joined the Navy Air Corps where he received his pilot training. He then transferred to Marine Air Corp and served in the Pacific during World War II in the VMB 433 Squadron. As a Captain he flew the PBJ, also known as the B-25. He completed his tour of duty overseas in 1945. He completed his military service in March of 1946 and soon after moved to West Texas to begin a life-long career in cotton farming and ranching. He first settled on the Santa Rosa Ranch near Grandfalls, where he and Barbara started their family with daughters, Linda and Carole. The family then moved to Pecos in January 1947. Son Bill was born later in 1958.

Barbara passed away in 1963. Travis later married Bobbie Chesney in 1966 and the Lattner clan grew again with the addition of Teri and Tip Chesney. Travis and Bobbie recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary together. In semi-retirement, Travis spent many hours researching (with help from other family members) and writing the Lattner family history. In 2002, he published “The Lattner Story” spanning six generations. Travis enjoyed cooking and was famous for his barbequed ribs. He was an avid sports fan and faithfully followed the Dallas Cowboys. He loved a good joke. Travis expressed his feelings best in his book as follows. “I consider myself indeed fortunate to be in good health and to have many good friends.

We are also fortunate that our five children are happy, in good health and are all doing well in their present jobs and occupations. All six grandchildren are doing fine, staying busy as bees and seem to think and care a lot about Grammy and PaPa. I like to think this is as good as it gets.”

Lattner was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Christelle Mills; one brother, Sam Lattner and his first wife, Barbara Parton.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Lattner; his children, Bill Lattner and wife, Wendy; Carole Steinmetz, Linda Myers, Teri Moore and husband, Hardin and Tip Chesney; his grandchildren, Travis Lattner, Jon Steinmetz, Caron Steinmetz, Shannon Glenn, Allison Moore and Ross Moore; his niece Betty Wheatley and husband, Mike.

Dulces Hernandez

Dulces Hernandez, Jr., 51, of Pecos, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Odessa.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Purcell, Okla.

Hernandez was born Aug. 26, 1954, in Monahans, was a laborer, had lived in Oklahoma for several years and was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Potts Hernandez of Oklahoma; his father, Dulces Hernandez, Sr. of Ojinaga, Mexico; three daughters, Rebecca Ray Gonzales, Yvonne Marie Hernandez, Kristen Leanor Gonzales of Deming, N.M.; five brothers, Ramon Munoz, Eleuterio Porras of Carlsbad, N.M., Joe Frank Hernandez of Flagstaff, Ariz., Felix David Hernandez, Ruben Hernandez of Pecos; two sisters, Andrea Hernandez of Carlsbad, N.M., Piedad Sally Hernandez of Pecos and three grandchildren.

Isabel “Shavelita” Hernandez, 81, of Pecos, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Regency Hospital in Odessa.

Pablo Montoya

Pablo C. Montoya, 99, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at his residence.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

He was born June 29, 1906, in Alamos De Garcia, Mexico, was retired, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Montoya was preceded in death by three wives, Julia Barrera Montoya, Otilia Gonzales Montoya and Ester Jiner Montoya; five sons, Domingo, Sixto Felipe Jose Barrera, Pablo Jr. and Guillermo “William” Montoya; and one step-son, Isabel Portillo, Jr.

Survivors include six sons, Andres Montoya of Crystal City, Epifanio “Pifi” Montoya of Pecos, Benito and wife Leticia Montoya of Dallas, Rogelio “Roy” and wife Elma Montoya, Tiodosa “Tio” and wife Alma Montoya of Odessa; one step-son, Robert and wife Rose Luna of San Antonio; six daughters, Elvira and husband Cipriano Mendoza of Crystal City, Emma Carrasco of Pecos, Armida and husband Felipe Rico of Pecos, Otilia and husband Rodrigo Valenzuela, Delia Montoya of Odessa and Ninfa and husband Richard Alligood of Pecos; one sister, Francisca Montoya Ochoa of Ojinaga, Mexico; 60 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Martin Rodriguez

Martin O. Rodriguez, 82, of Pecos, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass is scheduled for noon, Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Ruidosa, Tx., was a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Rodriguez was preceded in death by three brothers, Manuel “Calila” Rodriguez of Pecos, Catarino “Cat” Rodriguez of Pecos and Luis Rodriguez of Pampa and one sister, Refiga “Chica” Braud of Pecos. Survivors include two sons, Jesus M. Rodriguez of El Paso, Eliazer Rodriguez of Odessa; one daughter, Bertha A. Rodriguez of Pecos; one sister, Delia Hernandez of Juarez, Mexico and four grandchildren.

Marcos Gonzales

Marcos Gomez Gonzales, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Feb. 1.

He was born Oct. 8, 1931 in Stanton.

Survivors include one son, Marcos Antonio Gonzales; one daughter, Gregoria Hunt; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby Fay Newton

Ruby Fay Newton, 89, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, at the First Baptist Church in Pecos, with Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 24, 1916, to C.W. and Ruby Hawk in Nimrod. She later married Malcolm Newton before moving to the Pecos-Toyah area where she taught school for 40 years and was a lifelong Baptist.

Newton was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Newton; one son, Jimmy Bryant and seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Michael Newton of Waller; three daughters, Parker Willis of Odessa, Glen Ryan of Midland, Pat Dawson of Waller; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Abel Hinojos Leos Jr.

Abel Hinojos Leos, Jr., 62, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in Garland.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born May 14, 1943, in Pecos, was a retired land surveyor, had lived in Garland for seven years and was a Catholic.

Leos was preceded in death by his parents, Abel Sr. and Manuela Leos; his wife, Alicia Leos; one brother, Danny Leos and one stepson, Armando Armendariz.

Survivors include two sons, Arturo Leos and Alvaro Leos of Dallas; one stepdaughter, Rosemary Urias of Pecos; two brothers, Ynes Leos of Ivanhoe, Calif., Gabriel Leos of San Angelo; three sisters, Felipa Leos of San Angelo, Maria Hernandez and Norma Dominguez of Pecos; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John Thomas Marsh Jr.

John Thomas “J.T.” Marsh Jr., 82, of Toyah, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Odessa.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at West Park Baptist Church with Brother Rey Carreon officiating. Burial will be in Toyah Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Denham Springs, La., served in the Navy, 3rd Division Marine Medic in World War II, was a retired Justice of the Peace and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Marsh of Toyah; two sons, John C. Marsh of Arizona, Jimmy Marsh of Odessa; two daughters, Bettie Ann Marsh-Peach of Pensacola, Fla., Renee Crabille of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Minnie Lee Barnett of Bosier City, La.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Pearl Marie Phillips

Pearl Marie Phillips, 75, of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29, at Paul’s Funeral Home Chapel in Hugoton, Kansas with Minister Jeff Aenk officiating. Burial was in Hugoton Memorial Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Hugoton, Kansas, was a retired bookkeeper, had lived in Pecos a long time and was a member of First Christian Church.

Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Hilda Shelton; one brother, Earl Shelton; one sister, Esther Tipton; one daughter, Elizabeth Phillips and her husband, Harold Phillips.

Survivors include one son, Woodrow Phillips of Pecos; one daughter, Jana Davis of Pecos; one brother, Larry Shelton of Woodrow, Okla.; two sisters, Ruby Rowden of Hugoton, Kansas, Ruthie Zimmerman of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren and five grandchildren.

Pat Rushing

Pat Rushing, 78, of Andrews died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Phil J. Marroquin, Pastor of Apostolic Worship Center in Andrews, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 14, 1927 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Robert E. Rushing and Sadie Sanders Rushing, studied engineering at the University of Texas in Austin, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, moved to Andrews in 1951 from Monahans, worked for Exxon from 1952-1985, was a past member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of the Exxon Annuitant Club in Andrews and a full faith Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife: Jean Rushing of Andrews; two sons: Rick Rushing of Andrews and Mark Rushing of Pecos; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. McNett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ramon Vega

Ramon Vega, 39, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 23, 1966, in Littlefield, was a laborer, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Villalobos Vega of Pecos; three sons, Timothy Ruben Villalobos of Midland, Benito Ray Vega of Pecos, Christopher Gomez of Post; five daughters, Janifer Vega of Odessa, Angela and Trina Villalobos of Pecos, Desiree and Adriana Vega of Pecos; two sister, Cecilia Guajardo and Elaine Ortega of Pecos; two brothers, Juan Francisco Vega Jr. of Fort Worth, Leon Lee Vega of Odessa and nine grandchildren.

Agapito Acosta

Agapito Acosta, 89, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Odessa.

He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Candelaria, was an oilfield pipeline laborer, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory Acosta of Yakima, Washington, Pito Acosta of Pecos; two daughters, Dora Talamantez of Odessa, Teodora Acosta Burciaga of Pecos; three sisters, Inez Olivas of Odessa, Tomasa Salgado and LaLa Machuca of Pecos; two brothers, Manuel Acosta of Artesia, Pedrito Acosta of Pecos; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Cruz Bitolas

Cruz Bitolas, 79, of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at her residence.

She was born May 3, 1926, in Pecos, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a homemaker, a Catholic, who was a member of the Guadalupanas and Crusillista De Colores.

Bitolas was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister and one son, Manuel “Bobby” Bitolas Jr.

Joan Hamilton

Joan Hamilton, 71, of Chester, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in the Fairview Regional Medical Center in Fairview, Okla.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Orion Baptist Church in Orion, Okla., with Rev. Leroy Goodman officiating.

She was born March 7, 1934, in Graham, to John Roy and Alma (McCalister) Vick, was raised in Fort Stockton, graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1952, moved to Odessa until 1959, when she then moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. She raised and showed Welsh Ponies and Pony’s of America (P.O.A). and received many awards and trophies. She was the owner of Teredaine Kennels where she raised and bred champion Shetland Sheep Dogs. She and her husband, Neil Hamilton retied in 1983 and moved to Pecos, where they lived until Neil passed away in 1989. In 1999, Joan moved to Midland, to care for her mother. Her mother passed away in 2004 and in March of 2005 she moved to Chester with her niece. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pecos, after moving to Fairview she transferred her membership to the Orion Baptist Church in Orion, Okla.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay Kleck of Odessa; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one niece; two nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made through the funeral home to the Orion Baptist Church.

Sylvia Roman

Sylvia Roman, 44, of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Odessa. Services are still pending.

She was born Feb. 11, 1961, in Pecos.

She was preceded in death by her mother Guadalupe Roman and brother Manuel Roman Jr.

Survivors include one daughter Amanda Roman; one son Keyon Roman; her father Manuel Roman Sr.; three brothers Eddie Roman, John Paul Roman, and Norman Roman, four sisters Olga Matta, Mary Alice Brijalba, Beatrice De Los Santos, Lori Contreras; one granddaughter; 16 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews.

Angelica Pina

Angelica Navarrette Pina, 72, of Pecos, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006.

Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Ojinaga, Mexico and was a housewife.

Pina was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Navarrette and Ydelfonsa Perez.

Survivors include three sons, Raul Pina of Presidio, Hector Pina of Odessa, Ramon Pina of El Paso; two daughters, Isela Lujan of Pecos, Manuela Pina of Odessa; five sisters, Maria Del Refugio Davila, Epimenia Patino, Pilar Gomez, Cruz Navarrette, Maria Gutierrez; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Harrison

Helen Frances Harrison, 81, a long time resident of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 15, at Pecos Funeral Home with Brother L.H. Woodard officiating.

She was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Rose, Okla, to Woodson and Evelyn Knott. She was a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and “the great” grandmother. She was retired from H&H Production Service Company, the family owned business they began in 1971.

Harrison was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Harrison; one brother, G.J. Knott and her parents, Woodson and Evelyn Knott.

Survivors include her five children: Jack Davis of Kerrville, Jimmie Kemp and husband, Ben of Andrews, Roger Harrison and wife Angela of Pecos, Jerry Harrison and wife Grace of Wink and Glen Harrison and wife Karen of Sweetwater; nine grandchildren, Jason Davis and wife Brooke, Leelyn Bishop, Brandi and Kaci Harrison, Jacob and Jeremy Harrison, and Kristen, Tatum and Kaitlen Harrison; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kendall and Jackson Harrison Davis; one brother, Wayne Knott; two sisters, Agnes Purdue and Gwen Talley.

Billie Clarkston

Billie Ruth Clarkston, 79, of Lampasas, died on Jan. 10, 2006 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Briggs Gamel Wilcox Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Brownwood, graduated with a B.A. from Howard Payne University, went on to teach reading, English and Spanish at the Junior High level in Lampasas, Balmorhea, Robstown, Riesel and Fort Hood; her teaching career spanned three decades before she retired, was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lampasas, where she was very involved in her church as a youth choir director and member of the choir; was a member of the TEA and the TSTA.

Clarkston was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. “Bob” Clarkston; one son, John Edward Rutledge and one granddaughter, Regina Tucker Perryman.

Survivors include four sons, Howard Glenn Rutledge, Jr. of Lampasas, Victor R. Rutledge of Antioch, Tenn., Robert E. Clarkston of Stafford, R.L. “Bucky” Clarktson of Lampasas; four daughters, Anita Rutledge of Verhalen, Barbara Clarkston of Kempner, Lynda Clarkston Reavis of Philadelphia, Ann Clarkson of Lampasas; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ona May Graef

Ona May Graef, 93, of Fort Stockton, died Jan. 8, 2006, in Fort Stockton.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ernie Vinyard officiating.

Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine.

She was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Scurry County, was a ranch owner and operator, had lived in Balmorhea since 1961, had been a longtime member of the West of the Pecos Cattlewomen Association, Bridge Player and Well Kept Community Club.

Graef was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Graef in March 1962.

Survivors include two nieces, Leona Trowbridge of Balmorhea and Linda Darlene Steward of San Angelo.

Benito Hignojos Jr.

Benito Hignojos Jr., 46, of Lubbock, died Jan. 9, 2006, in Lubbock.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church.

Hignojos was preceded in death by two brothers, Jose and Hipolito Hignojos and his father, Benito Hignojos Sr.

He was born Sept. 12, 1959, in Pecos and was a Catholic.

Survivors include his mother, Carmen Hignojos; four brothers, Luis Hignojos of Lubbock, Geronimo Hignojos of Pecos, Ismael Hignojos of Ft. Stockton, Ezequiel Hignojos of Barstow and one sister, Lydia Garcia of Barstow.

Carlos Lopez

Carlos Lopez, 39, died Jan. 11, 2006, in El Paso.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time under the direction of Crestview Funeral Home of El Paso.

Lopez was born Jan. 23, 1967, in Midland, had lived in Pecos for a number of years, graduated from Pecos High School and was employed with J Edwards Jewelry in El Paso.

Survivors include his wife, Laura M. Lopez of El Paso; two sons, Robert and Angel Lopez of El Paso; his parents, Edmundo Lopez Sr. and Rosario Lopez of Pecos; one sister, Corina Navarrete of Midland; three brothers, Edmundo Lopez Jr., Francisco Lopez of Alpine, Humberto Lopez of Northern Richland Hills and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack Osborn

Jack Richard Osborn, 65, of Toyah, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at his home in Toyah.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, in Toyah with Raymond and Karen Hornberger officiating.

He was born July 8, 1940, in Pecos, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a truck driver, fence builder and windmill man.

Osborn was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Leta; three sisters, Billie Faye, Ilene and Irene and six brothers, Roy Lee, Tom, John, Joe, Jim and Charlie.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Osborn of Toyah; sons, Jack Jr. and Damien of Pecos; Amanda of Waco; Darren and Julie Guthrie of Enid, Okla.; two brothers, Dan Osborn of Huntsville and Jay Walker of Azle; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.

Priscilla D. Duran

Services: Priscilla “Cilla” D. Duran, 23, of West Church Street, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Jan. 1, 2006 at Carlsbad Medical Center.

A vigil was held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, 7:00 p.m., at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel with Nathan Knight officiating.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Oasis Christian Fellowship with Pastor Gabriel Rubio officiating.

Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

“Cilla” Priscilla D. Duran was born August 8, 1982 in Monahans, Texas to Danny and Priscilla Villaloboz Villescas. She started school in Pecos, then moved to Carlsbad in 1992 and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2000. While attending school in Carlsbad, Cilla was active in band, color guard and girl’s track. Cilla also loved to dance and was a 10 year student at the Harding Webster School of Dance. Cilla married Daniel Duran on August 12, 2000 in Las Cruces, NM. They moved to Odessa where she attended American Commercial College to learn medical transcription. Cilla and her family moved back to Carlsbad in 2004 where she went to work at Carlsbad Medical Center in the business office. Cilla was an active member of Oasis Christian Fellowship and enjoyed participating in their drama productions. Cilla loved her family and especially enjoyed family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Villescas, Jr. and grandparents Ben Villaloboz and Betty Marquez.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Duran of Carlsbad, N.M.; two daughters, Diamond Delani and Danielle Crystal of Carlsbad, N.M.; her parents, Danny and Priscilla Villescas of Carlsbad, N.M.; one brother, Luis Villescas of Odessa; three sisters, Karen Jaquez and husband Robert of Carlsbad, N.M., D'Andra Olguin of Carlsbad, N.M., Breanne Villescas of Carlsbad, N.M.; her grandparents, Roddy and Betty Villescas Sr. of Pecos, her parents-in-law: Larry and Sylvia Granger of Carlsbad, N.M.; her brothers- In -Law: Joshua Hernandez and wife Michelle of Ft.
