| Daily Newspaper and Travel Guide for Pecos Country of West Texas Lifestyle Monday, June 1, 1998 Couple tells plans for wedding Mr. and Mrs. F. DiTucci of Rosario, Argentina announce the official engagement of their daughter, Ruth Lillian to George Safirowski. The couple announced their engagement on April 28, but have not set a wedding date. The bride graduated from Rochester University and holds three Bachelor of Arts degrees in, journalism, psychology and English, respectively. The groom owns a tool and die manufacturing plant. The couple plan to reside in the North East. Herrera aboard carrier Navy Seaman Eloy M. Herrera, son of Eloy D. and Mary Herrera of Pecos, is currently halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis. Herrera is one of more than 5,000 Sailors and Marines aboard the ship which departed its homeport of Norfolk, Va. in February to lead the USS John C. Stennis Battle Group. Herrera's ship is supporting Operation Southern Watch, helping to enforce U.N. mandates levied against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. Carriers, like USS John C. Stennis, are forward deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the most versatile and powerful weapons available.
