Reddell, Mendoza announce May wedding


Mr. Rusty Reddell and Ms. Jo Reddell are pleased to announce
the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Jeanna Reddell, to Tony Mendoza, son of Jesse Mendoza and
Diane Massey, both of Seminole.

The bride-elect is a 1993 graduate of Pecos High School and
is currently a senior student at San Angelo State
University, majoring in kindergarten-elementary education.

The future bridegroom is a 1991 graduate of Seminole High
School and is a senior student at San Angelo State
University, majoring in sports science.

The wedding is planned for 6 p.m., on Saturday, May 16, at
the M.S. Doss Community Chapel in Seminole.

Weinacht named director at SRSU


Dr. Mary Ann Weinacht, professor of education at Sul Ross
State University, has been named director of teacher
education at Sul Ross.

A Pecos resident before joining Sul Ross as a part-time
lecturer in 1985, Weinacht also serves as certification
officer for the Department of Education. She continues to
coordinate special education and educational diagnostician
programs. She has been serving as interim director since
January.

Weinacht earned her bachelor's degree from Texas Women's
University. Her master's degree and doctorate were conferred
by the University of North Texas.

Her Pecos family includes son Bill Weinacht and his wife,
Marina, and three grandchildren, Lara, Jake and Claire.

Students place in UIL academic meets


Balmorhea ISD students participated in UIL Academic
competition recently.

Elementary and junior high students traveled to Presidio
where they competed against five other schools, while the
high school level competition was held in Balmorhea.

In storytelling, third grade level, Cydney White placed
fifth.

Jamie Gallego placed second and Orlando Sanchez, fifth in
number sense, fourth grade competition.

In grades fourth and fifth, art contest winners who placed
fifth included Jacob Moore, Monica Carrasco, Daniel Tarin
and Amanda Guebara.

Fifth graders competing in listening skills who placed
include Monica Mendoza, first and Ismael Rodriguez, fourth.

Maps, graphs, and charts, fifth grader, Lorissa Rodriguez,
placed sixth.

In number sense, fifth graders, JoGina Gallego placed first,
James Tarin, second and Lorissa Rodriguez, fourth.

Amanda Orozco, fifth grader placed first in oral reading,
while Levon Barragan took third place.

Spelling winner, James Tarin placed second in the fifth
grade competition.

Sixth grader, Emilie Cade, placed first in oral reading.

Number sense competitor in sixth grade, John Keeper placed
second and number sense competitors, seventh graders, Tommy
Garcia placed first and Jourmain Matta took second.

In science, seventh grade, Julia Garlick placed fifth.

Spelling competitors in seventh grade, Ivan Rodriguez placed
fourth and Jourmain Matta took sixth.

Balmorhea high school competitors included first place
winner in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Nathian Rodriguez.
Samantha Natividad took fifth placed in that category.

Editorial writing winners were Naomi Madrid, second and
Nelda Mondragon sixth.

News writing winners were Stephanie Dominguez, third and
Cherry Garcia, sixth.

Individual winners in accounting were: Naomi Madrid, first;
Amparo Balderas, third; Rebecca Orozco, fifth and second as
alternate and Rosalo Arredondo, sixth.

Accounting team winners included the team of Naomi Madrid,
Amparo Balderas and Rebecca Orosco, who placed first.
