Sisneros, Esparza plan Valentine's wedding

Andres and Jane Sisneros, of Midland, announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Diana
G. Sisneros to Amando Esparza III.

The groom to be is the son of Amando Esparza Jr. and Yolanda
Esparza of Odessa.

The couple plan to wed at 7 p.m., Feb. 14, at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church in Midland.

Daw aboard aircraft carrier

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Eric D. Daw, whose wife, Sonya,
is the daughter of Alfonso and Guadalupe Villela of Pecos,
is currently halfway through a six-month deployment to the
Mediterranean Sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS George
Washington.

Daw is one of more than 5,000 Sailors and Marines aboard the
ship, which departed its home port of Norfolk, Va., in
October to lead the USS George Washington Battle Group.

During the first half of the deployment, Daw's ship was
called to the Arabian Gulf for Operation Southern Watch,
enforcing the no-fly zone over Iraq. Daw's ship also
participated in Exercise Bright Star, a multinational
exercise designed to improve unit readiness and
interoperability with coalition forces.

Daw had the opportunity to visit the United Arab Emirates
and Israel, where crew members from his ship participated in
outreach projects in the host communities.

Carriers, like USS George Washington, are forward deployed
around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide
rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly
visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and, if deterrence
fails, offer the most versatile and powerful weapons
available.

The USS George Washington Battle Group can travel more than
500 miles a day while simultaneously deploying to separate
geographic regions. With Tomahawk cruise missiles, tactical
aircraft and combat-ready Marines, the forces provide
unified commanders with an unparalleled range of flexible
options and capabilities.

The 1987 graduate of Keokuk Senior High School of Keokuk,
Iowa, joined the Navy in June 1987.

Exhibit planned at OC

Steve Goff, chair of mass communication and assistant
professor of photography at Odessa College, is exhibiting a
body of photographic works at Proteus Gallery and Salon in
Odessa.

The show, "Someone's in the Garden," represents nearly 30
selected color photographs made over the past several years
from gardens in Odessa, Midland, across the state and in
Hawaii.
The soft, dreamy mood that is depicted throughout these
images allows the viewer to drift into serene, spiritual
places surrounded by the magic and beauty of nature.

The opening reception is on Valentine's Day, Saturday, Feb.
14, from 7-9 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit
of photographs runs through May 2. Proteus is located at 112
W. Fifth St. in Odessa. Hours are 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
Tuesday-Saturday.
